I'm about to start carrying my outboard motor on the draw bar of the caravan. I previously carried it in the back of the Hilux.

With plenty of dirt road travell planned, I will need a good outboard motor cover. I've only found one place so far and was quoted 'about $400'. I have no idea if that is a good price, but it sounds expensive to me.

Anyone know of a business that makes these and how much it should cost for a good one that will keep the dust away from the motor.

Thanks
Norm C

Norm C, check out my pic in post 61767. All I do on the road is wrap the outboard in a piece of canvas, all secured in place with rope and have never had a problem of any kind, ever, after many miles. WTF ??? $400 ... what were they offering...?
Cheers,
Fred.

Norm,

I would suggest if you are transporting it on the drawbar, you need to keep more than dust away from it, especially when travelling offroad.

I don't have this problem as my outboard clamps to a carrier on the rear of the camper, next to the spare wheel. I have a cover for the top of the motor only, mainly to protect against the sun's ultraviolet rays.

$400 doesn't sound excessive when you compare the replacement cost of the outboard. I assume the cover would be a full one piece "bag" that encloses the entire motor?

Bill.

Yes I found their site and they look good. $360 for the combo inc postage. I suspect most of the ones I hae seen on the road and on the water come from this company.

Norm C,

I have a canvas cover which I had made to fit my 15hp Mercury outboard.

Please contact me at gandpstevo@bigpond.com, as I no longer require this cover and would be willing to sell if it would suit.

Regards

Thanks for the offer, but I need to fit a 25HP 4 stroke.
You motor is very popular for roof toppers, so you should have no trouble selling it.
