Nick yes you can use the antenna, as CDMA and next G are on similar frequency.I just got an adapter to suit new phone, don't know about the kit though.

Nick,

Alas, the CARK126 will not be any good to you mate. There is no cradle for the Nokia 6120 that connects to the CARK126.
I too had one of these kits for my old phones. (The 6021 GSM and the 2112 CDMA phones both fit in the same cradle).

What you need is the Nokia CK-7W Car Kit which has Bluetooth capability for the phone to connect to. You can disconnect the CARK126 module and swap in the CK-7W module, retaining all other power, microphone and speaker connections, which are the same. You can even use the same mounting point.

Then you need a Force Technology cradle for the 6120 which has a power lead that plugs into a ciggy socket for charging the phone. This cradle also has an aerial port that accepts your existing connector. The CDMA antenna is the same frequency as NextG so you can retain the same external antenna.
The phone will always connect to the CK-7W via Bluetooth.
The CK-7W also has a remote control which you attach to the center console or dash with velcro, or similar. This provides a volume control and puch putton to initiate voice activated calls.

To make a call while driving, you just push the button for a second, then you get a prompt to initiate a voice activate call. Recieved calls will be automatic, providing you set the phone up for this feature and calls will disconnect automatically when the other end hangs up. Alternatively, you can end a call manually by a brief press of the remote control button. Touching the remote control is perfectly legal under existing road rules for phone use by drivers in vehicles, but you rarely need to do so unless you initiate a call.

Just one word of caution. The 6120 initially had problems with echo when connected to the CK-7W. This was subsequently fixed by a firmware upgrade to the phone (v4.21), but unless your phone is one of the original batch, you probably have the firmware patch already. If not, it can be downloaded from the Nokia web site using the free Nokia Phone Software Updater application, also downloadable for free.

The Nokia CK-7W Car Kit works extremely well with the 6120 phone and I have no hesitation in recommending this solution to you. It is much better than any other handsfree kit I have tried.

Bill.

Hi Sand Man ,

I have a 6120 , a new Nokia car kit ( not sure if the cradle is Force or Nokia .

This is all wiredinto my car radio because my last CDMA phone was not Bluetooth .

The installer had the phone working perfectly in the car . Then I let the phone battery go dead and now the phone will charge in the car , but it will not put the sound through the radio .

The car radio and the phone are Bluetooth and I could probably get it to work on that system but having the phone set on Bluetooth seems to flatten the battery quicker. I would like it to work through the USB connection .

The installer told me there was a place to go in the phone and you held some button down then put in a code .
Does any of this make sense to you ? I am a bit hopeless on anything concerning electricity .

Thanks ,

Willie .

It sounds like you need to re pair the two together.

Go into Menu/connections/ bluetooth/ make seeable by all.

Make sure the ignition is on to power up the carkit

Search for devices. when your carkit comes up select and pair it using 0000.
Then there is a setting to make authorised and one to connect automatically.
Sounds strange that it has lost its settings cos of a flat battery.

I have taken tha battery out of my phone several times and it hast lost the bluetooth settings

. If all else fails go back to the installer and ask him to do it for you explaining it as he goes

Sorry path is Menu/ settings /connectivity/bluetooth.

Before you do the above get into bluetooth and move the top bar to the right that is from the icon with the spanner to the other one. This will show you what is connectable and by highlighting each one u can check if its authorised or not.

having the phone on bluetooth shouldnt make the battey go flat as mine is on all the time and the battery lasts 3 days without a charge.
If you use the "lightson" program it will go flat as it will drag it down keeping the screen lit

- unfortunately not all phones are created equal.

Very true but Nokia's are generally Ok.

Having had several I have found them to be OK.

Cant say the same for Motorola's which were a disaster.

Wouldnt stay paired, wouldnt connect automatically.

If left on Bluetooth enabled ran battery flat in no time.

Only speaking from personal experience and think I have a bit as my present phone is about number 14.

Thanks for your help Graham . The phone has now connected using Bluetooth , but as I said earlier , I am sure that I was connected using the USB through the radio before - not Bluetooth .

I am still confused !

I believe that you can turn off the email / web connection facility, which I go to by mistake once a day and loose money ( yes , I am a techno-clutz ). How do you do that ?

Thanks again ,

Willie .

Go to settings as above then packet data/ Open.

Make the setting for packet data " when needed"

Make the high speed packet access "disabled"

If you dont want it EVER and I mean EVER you can go to access point and by putting your cursor at the end and backspacing you can remove the entry Telstra.internet ????????????????
U wont be able to acceess the net then I dont think

You could go down to Data call which is the one below packet data and make the setting 1 minute

Finally if you really want to disable the net completely go to access points in the same menu and remove all the entries.

Doubtless some one else may have better ideas but thats what I would do

On reading your original post again you say it was connected by USB to the car radio.

Therefore if nothing has changed there should be two cables

attached to the bottom of the cradle. The little round one is the

power and the other one would be the USB.

If its there the installer would be the one to talk to as I have only used that to connect to the computer and I think it is only for transferring data not voice

Graham ,

I followed your instructions as below :
"Go to settings as above then packet data/ Open.
Make the setting for packet data " when needed"
Make the high speed packet access "disabled"

However the BIGPOND icon that I keep pressing by mistake , is still there . I pressed it and it "went somewhere". I want to kill that bloody thing .

Thanks ,

Willie .

Willie, is the button you keep pressing by mistake the top right hand soft key? When I first got my 6120 I kept pressing that button by mistake. You can assign that button to something else. I've put a little app on mine called 'Hour Power' which just speaks the time, and I've assigned that button to that, but you can change it to open whatever you want. I can still press and hold the '0' button to go to the Bigpond home page.

The path to change the settings for the buttons is Menu>Settings>Phone Settings>General>Personalisation>Standby Mode>Shortcuts>right Selection Key.

Hope that helps.

Cheers
Glenn

Nick ,

They told me at the phone shop that the new Force cradle just slotted in to the same spot and had the same plug as my old Nokia CDMA Force cradle . WRONG . Plugs were not the same .

Good luck ,

Willie .
