G'day All

I am new to this forum, and this my first post. My question is about camping spots in northern NSW. We are looking for somewhere to go at xmas time for approx a week. I know this is probably the worst time of the year to go travelling, but was just wondering if anyone knew of any nice quite spots. We have a 06 RAV with a camper trailer so mainly on road stuff. We like to do a bit of fishing and would prefer somewhere where we can take our lil staffy.

My other question was in relation to the Evakool fridgemates and what people that own one or have owned one think of them. Looking at the 70Lt. Does anyone know approx how long i could run a 70lt model for. I know this depends on battery size, just trying to establish what size i need.Does anyone know an average amp hour for this model. We usually camp for no longer than 3 nights at a time.

We have the 70L EvaKool, and it JUST fits lengthways in the back of a 100 series Landcruiser. Although it is great because of its size, it also requires a lot of power to keep that size fridge cool. I cant quote figures as it depends on the outside temp and if you run it as freezer/fridge or just as a fridge.

You havent said what type of battery you will be using to power it. I have seen figures that it needs at least an average of 2.5A per hour, (cycling on and off) so for 24 hours that is 60AH. Using a safe value of 50% of a 120AH battery, you would need some means of topping up the battery, ie solar, generator or running the motor to drive the alternator. Three days without topping up the battery would lessen the battery's life dramatically even if it would last that long.

Try this place as it is about 5 to 6 hrs west and is a big area with plenty of fishing and canoeing plus nice camping and is probably far enough away from Brisbane that it may not be packed for Christmas.I have been there twice and only found a couple of other campers there but never been there camping at Christmas. G'day,
I have owned a Evakool fridgemate 95L now for three years, it has the larger Danfoss DB50 compressor. I have a 120ah aux. battery and get three days solid out of it in warm NSW weather.
When camping in winter you could probably round it up to a week without starting the car. "Seriously"

In summer we camp for three weeks at Jervis Bay, we generally use it as a fridge only in the campsite and have it set mostly on the lowest settings 1-2, occasionally turning it up to 3-5 for a couple of hours after a restock. We keep it away from direct sun and also throw a towel over it.

I use another 100 ah battery in the campsite and it is connected to the car aux. battery via an 8 metre 50 amp cable and Anderson plugs, when the car is taken for a drive we unplug the wire, the car comes back with a recharged aux. and is plugged back into the campsite battery. it works very well.

When using it in the cruiser it is set on about 3 - 5 depending on car temp.
I chose the 95L because of its depth over the 70, I also didn't like the length of the 70, will it fit in the back of a RAV? you might be better off with the 55L.

I paid $1090 for it at the sydney camping show, at the time it was a couple of hundred bucks cheaper than the 40L Engel that I had my heart set on,twice the size, half for beer, half food.

I definatley don't regret it. much thicker insulated walls, moulded plastic body they can take a bit of bumping around,

I recommend it to everyone who asks.

cheers Matt

G'day Chad,we have had our 60lt Evakool for 6 years and it hasnt missed a beat so far. We are currently 100k Sth of Marble Bar WA on our tour around some of Australia over the last 8mths. In the temps over the last few days at around 40 deg, it keeps my tinnies nice and cold with constant inside fridge temp of 4.5 to 5 deg. It has been running fulltime since we left way back in Feb, and as I said before its been great to us. cheers

Hi Uncle

Do you find you have enough room in your 60lt. What size battery are you running the fridge off.
