We spent around nine weeks in the fabulous Kimberley region of WA, and five in central NT. We were just in time to see the displays of wildflowers in the mid west on the return journey.

We met only two ExplorOz members. Great to meet you both -thank you for coming to say hello.

With so much work on the farm and in the farm office, my trip reports are a long way off, but will turn up in MyBlog when i get a chance to get them together. There are thousands of photos to sort through, and a diary almost as big as an encyclopedia.

In summary, we toured the Gibb River Road, including Mitchell Falls and Kalumburu. We were some time in Kununurra and from there went and spent a couple of days at Purnululu. Taking the Tanami road to Alice Springs we then toured the East MacDonnells, Chambers Pillar, Rainbow Valley and the West MacDonnells. From there we went to Palm Valley, Kings Canyon, Uluru, Kata Tjuta and back into WA.

All was fabulous, but the Kimberley region was the best.

Welcome back Motherhen. Some of the natives were restless while you were away, but I'm sure they'll settle down a bit now that you're back.
Glad you enjoyed yourselves :))

Sounds like a great trip! Trust the Great Central Road was not too hard on the BT.

About to get our BT (Nov) and hope to do travels such as yours.

Hi Alan

We were lucky with the GCR. The NT side had been reported as quite bad (people had seen a road train bogged in the middle of the road). It was graded a few days before we went through. They always leave residual corrugations, but it was good, and the WA side was mainly good, with a few corrugated patches, but nothing major.

It is also a perception of the person whether they call a road good or bad, according to their recent experiences. We went through the Gibb River Road in June, hoping to miss the July frenzy. This proved to be a very wise move, and i know the roads can change quickly with traffic driving too fast, however one BT owner came through two or three weeks after us and said it was terrible.

Similarly in NT, the dirt road to Artlunga (East MacDonnells) was good and my husband said he really enjoyed the drive, partly because he could enjoy the scenery without needing his eyes on the road all the time. Three weeks later we met someone who'd been through down the Binns Track from Gemtree to Artlunga and then to Alice. They said that section of the Binns Track was a really good road, but the Artlunga to Ross River (unsealed section) was the worst road they had been on.

The Tanami Road had it's moments and needed constant vigilance. The WA side had the worst stretch (WA usually does!).

Enjoy you BT when it arrives.

Wish i was on the road again

I'm glad that you enjoyed your travels and will be looking forward to reading all about them.

We had a great trip too, only home a week, and like you the report and photos are in the pipeline.

All the best

Hi Willem

The Old Rooster is glad to be home, but i would love to stay on the road for years with so much to see out there. Reality check is a huge box full of mail (after i had a cull and burnt anything unimportant - a massive amount) and BAS to be done, all the lamb weights and production figures to be entered into Lambplan, and just generally catching up on farm work and book keeping. Our daughter did a marvellous job running the farm on her own. For now, it is unpacking, washing everything and general cleaning and maintenance before we can think about the next escape.

Glad to see your adventures are still continuing. Regards to Judith.
