Every scientific analysis says they can't work.

Every sellers website implies they work really well - but carefully worded so you can't sue them for false advertising.

You decide which to believe.

Mike,
That's why I was looking for people who have used these, So I could get first hand info because I'm not convinced they really work as most only give a 2 year warranty even on new cars.

Dave, I think it's doing the job. I wouldn't be without it. It's simple to mount yourself - company is helpful too if you need to call them. However, there are many different and conflicting views. You might care to do a search. cheers JD

JD,
I was hoping to find someone who has had one for a few years and has done a lot of beach work to try to see if they realy work.

Dave, it's hard to make a convincing argument - I just don't have a problem. The lack of oxidization (?) on the alloy bullbar after it was installed was always something that had my attention. I've done a bit of beach work on different occasions over the period of 4 years but even ERPS say you need to do additional preparation if constantly on the beach etc. For me it was all about doing what I could to limit the potential for rust - doing it yourself can be fairly cheap. Bit like kangaroo whistlers - I just got the $6 thingees - if they do something good, if not no worse off. cheers JD

Hello,
Don't waste your money, I did only to have rust appear in the turret of my 100 series. It was professionally installed and maintained annually as stated by manufacturer. Cruiser was 1 year old when applied and was 6 years old when the rust appeared. This cruiser was never driven on the beach (for the 5 years that I owned it) and was always garaged when not in use. It was my daily driver and my pride and joy. I now own a 79series cab/chassis and will not be wasting my money on the electronic type again, instead I will opt for the good old fashioned "Fish Oil" in a can.
Cheers: Phil

Thanks for that Phil,
I sort of suspected that as one company I enquired at has a five year warranty from date of manufacture on vehicle,As my car is six years old I don't know how warranty would work.

Hi Dave,

I had one fitted on my 2004 Hilux since new and we do beach work at least once a month as we have family who live at Rainbow Beach.

Coupled with this however we are really fussy about washing on top and under the car when we have been on the beach so I don't know what is being more effective.

So far I have no rust that I am aware of so I am happy with that.

I had one on a previous vehicle but it didn't stop the sidesteps rusting nor both the doors near the mirrors. The car was taken on the beach occasionally but always care for. Basically I think they are a complete crock, and there's enough evidence around to support that theory.
See if you can find an *independently* run and verified test of any of these gizmos (with a relevant test - ie. 2 vehicles in identical conditions).

Hi Dave,

I have a 1990 model 80 Series Landcruiser which has had the commercial ERPS fitted since new. It was fitted proffesionally with the largest 8 x pad system available.

Not only do I think that it is a waste of money but I actually think it may cause rust.

80 Series generally are one of the better vehicles and not considered rust buckets. Well my wagon has rust everywhere. Big hole in the middle of the lower tailgate, roof gutters, "A" Pillars, "C" pillars, front and back of rear wheel arches..... the list goes on. It is actually rusting in the firewall right beside one of the pads. Ha!
In addition to electronic rust prevention the vehicle has been very well washed down after what would not be considered excessive use on the beach, but it has also been very well treated with several chemical rust prevention methods like tectyl and fishiolene over the years.
I can only come to the conclusion that the ERPS may have contributed to this amount of rust.

I have not always been of this opinion but as I have observed the amount, the places, and the speed in which the rust is growing I have moved from an advocate of ERPS to being a skeptic.

Well that is my opinion anyway. Hope this helps and good luck with your decision.

Put one in my wifes Commodore. We live near the water.

Hi Dave - with these everyoneseems to have an opinion and like you i was confused. that was until i seen two 4wds that travelled on the beach a lot and had no rust, oxidisation of paint etc despite their age.

So i decided if i could get one of the new ERPS but only at the right price, why not try it. And thats waht i did. since having it i get so many comments about the excellent condition of my black 9 year old 4b and people asking how it stays looking so good. these only came about after the ERPS was fitted. I also fitted a second hand bullbar (before i fitted the ERPS) that had heaps of oxidisation and despite plenty of hand polishing it never came up to "scratch". Now it looks like i polish it all the time despite me not doing anything to it other than washing it with the carwash i use.

i also have a very good mate that works at the oil refinery and he said they used to have vehicles rusting out within 1 to 2 years due to the highly corrosive area and sea salt etc. when they fitted the vehicles with ERPS it prolonged the need to purchase new vehicles. i am unsure what they do there now but if need be can ask him about it again. (he is an auto elec there)

so my advice - if you can afford one or can get one at the "right" price why not give it a go. any problems remove it - but i think if it is fitted correctly you will leave it on like me and numerous others i have met with them on. just ensure you get the correct type, no point getting one that suits a structure or vehicle that permanently sits in water (eg: boat) and sticking it on your 4b, as it will cause it to rust.

my experiences are similar to jdwynn (Adelaide) - including the cheap kangaroo whistlers - I just dont seem to have problems with roos etc anymore (touch wood) - so at the right price, if they do something thats good, great; if not your really no worse off. cheers
