G'day Everyone,

We are starting to plan a future trip to WA. Intention is to head west from Alice Springs via the Gary Junction Hwy, eventually coming out towards 80mile beach.
I have looked at the archival info but would be interested to hear from anyone that has been on the Gary junction rd in the last year or so.
Your thoughts and comments wil be greatly apreciated.

regards

Beemer I was out there 6 weeks ago and gave some feedback in respect to track conditions. Here is the Link to the blog and also post 60230.

Cheers

Mick

We travelled Gary Junction Road 12 months ago from Alice Springs to Well 33 - a well maintained gravel road.

haha cool - was a guess really. I've only been out that way once in 2005 (see post 27138)

Those hills and mountains out that way are really spectacular.

Travelled that way in August and also 2 years ago, from Alice on the Gary Junction Hwy and then the WAPET road and onto 80 Mile Beach.

We had a convoy of four vehicles and had no problems on the well formed and mostly graded dirt road. It went down two wheel tracks somewhere west of Kiwirrkurra to the CSR but it was still a good track.

We fuelled up at Kintore and some topped up at Well 33.

The WAPET road was more interesting as there were plenty of washouts to get your attention. But nothing that was impassable.

Enjoy.
