I have to say congratulations to Top end tours & the others involved last Saturday at Jim Jim falls NT car park,A young German girl was left by the tour group see was travelling with (if I new the Name of this group I would print it with a big warning) as she was not feeling well, they left her alone in the car park with no water or assess to the vehicle, another family found her in a state, & gave her water, turned on there air conditioner & helped she now was getting pretty bad. Top end tours was asked if she was one of there group. she was not but the operator jumped right in & helped he new he's stuff, he had all the safety gear & as well had 3 doctors as passengers. At this stage I was unaware of what was happening & as I left the car park out shot a OKA well it never went under 100kph, at the main road he flagged us down to see if we could take 4 passengers of course we said yes so he could now take the girl to hospital (he had sat phoned but no Ambulance was available) who was now drifting in & out. of the 4 i took 3 & the family that assisted took 1 ,2 of my new passengers were doctors & said she was in a bad way. the Young 3rd doctor that stayed with her, I had spoken to under the falls (now not running) & she had just finished her doctors course in NZ & was trying to get a visa here to be a GP & had been getting the run around by different agencies. I hope she gets one
And again thanks to all who got involved as it could be any one of us in need at some time & I hope the young tourist makes a speedy recovery
If anyone knows which company that left her please let others no as we don't need this type out there
regards Vince

Good on ya Steve,

More Aussie businesses involved with international tourists should take note of your professional ethics and promotion of the Australian way of helping those in need.

About 4 months ago we were also at Jim Jim Falls when a friend slipped and sprained her ankle. Who should step in and offer first aid, Yep you guest it Steve from Top End Tours. Kept his tour group waiting while he helped to get her back to the car park.

Thanks Steve it's great to know that there are considerate people like you out there.

Cheers Dave

Excellent behaviour from a a business who puts people before "business".

I've always believed Steve to be a bloke of high standards, this doesn't surprise me.

Jim.

I'm not surprised that one of Steve's operators would assist.
I'm sure that the other tour group will suffer because it will become common knowledge among those who work in that area. There is such a thing as duty of care...obviously one group is professional and it sure wasn't the one that left her behind !!

yep good stuff.

It would be a big call cutting short/ putting out or whatever people who have paid good money and for some of them alot of money for these tours.
But its good to see he was still prepared to do what had to be done rather than look the other way and keep the group happy

Hey Vince.

Thanks for helping that day.

Just to clear some things up, our first thoughts were that she had heat stroke and that she had been left by her guide, this turns out not quite the case.

She had had enough of the walking in the heat for the day, so she decided to return to the car with her partner, this was without telling the guide, once she had returned to the car she worked herself into a distressed state, so the numb fingers and feet dizzyness and vomiting were a result that looked like dehydration and heat stroke, hence my reaction.

I was /still am annoyed that the guide didn't know were she was for 2 hours without looking, but this situation was not entirely his fault, she wanted out of the camping tour and into accommodation and she had a few of us fooled, she took advantage of our help, under the circumstances I would do the same again, as the temp on the day was 45 in the shade 55 ambient and those rocks hold temps to 70 degrees.

My clients were happy for me to treat this girl, and they were never in danger themselves, the above info was give to me by the attending doctor at the clinic in Jabiru, she also told me that without proper equipment (hospital equipment ) you can only diagnose the symptoms, and I didn't over react to the situation.

Anyway she is better so all is well.

As a result of this my tours are finishing on the 25 of the month and I am only filling up the ones I have bookings for, it is simply to hot and I will not put clients at risk for the sake of a dollar.

PS the OKA only gets to 95 kph LOL.

Cheers Steve.

Steve,
OT, but am interested to know whether it is "normal" for it to be so hot at this time of year that you cease tours - or is it unusually hot for October up there? What is the local "feeling", bush signs etc about whether the coming wet will be early or late, big or small?
PS - worked at Monsoon Cafe, 2006 - have a feeling Top End was a client??

Regardless of the circumstances good on you for helping Steve.

Still good to know that some people still care about the well being of others.

Thanks Steve for letting me no, I hope you don't get to many like that a year. You don't mind if they are genuine. I knew it was hot & it felt like the longest 900mtrs ever walked/climbed that day & your clients that we took that day had a great time, even though they all commented on the comfort of the 6 wheeler (horses for courses) & had nothing but phrase for you & your tour
