I thought I would do a story on a visit to
Jabiru when my Daughter Sonia and her No 1 man Mark came up to
Darwin from
Orange , NSW , I loaded all my
camp gear into the Troopy and topped up the 80lt
water tank , fired up the Waeco fridge, and away I went up to
Darwin, I don't have to worry about much else other than a tucker box as the vehicle is always set up as it was for Pilot work with bed , fan, Inverter,
water tank, etc. Their arrival was around 4:40 pm on Saturday 4th Oct' but I left home at 10am because I had to pick up my new Pup in
Darwin at 11:30 am , He's a replacement for Slim who had to be put down due to an injury, so I then went to the Shell Truck Port at Berrimah and waited for the Arrival , On their arrival they hired a white Toyota Camry , After a night in the motel , me in the Troopy at Shell on Sunday we headed for
Jabiru stopping off at various
places for a look along the way, The heat was getting to them two Southerners I might add, they stuck to A/C's like glue and at times couldn't get back in the Camry quick enough to get some cool air, We arrived at
Jabiru at 3:20pm and they booked into the
Jabiru Lakeview
Park Motel. Then we went to find Steve from Top End Explore Tours but he was still on his way home from a tour, we finally caught up with him at around 6pm , had a good chat and a few drinks and planned events for Monday , My Visitors went back to the Motel and I parked near Steve's House for the night, Monday Morning we went out to Ubirr and seen the
Aboriginal Rock Art and climbed the
Lookout, I have some great Photo's to add to
Places for that , on return to
Jabiru we had a quick lunch , Steve had the boat hooked up loaded with Mid Strength and Ice ,Fishing Rods , and we were all armed with Camera's and off we went in Steve's 100 series down to Yellow Waters for the afternoon drinking, fishing, and Crocodile spotting.....( In that order) I'm sorry to say the only two fish caught was an undersize Barra, and a Catfish ,

and I'm not saying who caught what except that Sonia and Mark had no luck but they sure was treated to one very interesting afternoon by Steve with his fantastic local knowledge of the Birds, and wildlife, and we sure got some wonderful shots of the Crocs , Those photo's will be uploaded to Yellow Waters
PLACES on Tuesday, but not the bloody FISH. On return to Steve's home we all treated to one hell of a fantastic BBQ and Beer by Steve and his wife Anya and was thoroughly entertained by his little Son Phillip, What a little Champ he is and so knowledgeable,
I spent another night parked up at Steve's place and Tuesday we set of toward
Pine creek calling into Cooinda for lunch, then on to Baguk , On the way into Gabuk we decided to leave the Camry at a stony
creek crossing , didn't want to risk ripping the sump out so Sonia and Mark rode with me in the Troopy for the rest of the dirt track, Gabuk is
well worth a visit , there is a nice walk from the car
park up to the
rock pools , We then headed of to
Mary River Roadhouse for Lunch , Showed them around Historical
Pine Creek and then headed to
Adelaide River where they booked into Mt Bundy Station for 2 nights , so I had 2 nights at home in my Van with an A/C , Thursday I showed then some sights on the way to
Darwin plus the Museum, Aviation
Heritage Centre , Military Museum at
East Point , by then it was time to wind down , have a few beers, supper at Hogs Breath Cafe , Friday Morning it was time to say goodbye and their flight departed for
Sydney at 8:25 am , I headed home to
Adelaide River , was a bit sad when I looked in my mirrors that White Camry was missing .
I got a phone call about 12:45 pm from Sonia, they had covered the 3149Klm in about 4 hours and were getting ready to board the connecting flight to
Orange , So all in all I've had a very good week and was so good to see her again and meet Mark ,.... I've talked him into buying a Garmin Nuvi 760, He was very impressed with it ,
