Fraser Island

Hi

Could someone advise if under-body wash facilities are available in Rainbow Beach

A friend also mentioned that I should have an underbody seal applied before going. Have not heard of this before. Any info would be greatly appreciated

Yes, there's a big fancy underbody car wash place in Rainbow Beach.
You can go through it quickly on the way to fraser to get a pre-beach treatment (just some sort of oily water mix) if you like.

hi david

i have never used the underbody wash at rainbow beach i have heard stories that it is recycled water so all the salty sandy water just gets reused, but i don't know if it is true or not.

i just go to the servo in rainbow beach and they have a coin operted high pressure hose and then i do the rest when i get
home.

What's to say that the high pressure hose at the servo doesnt use recycled water??? Why would a reputable business risk using substandard water on vehicles?

Pretty hard to do underneath the vehicle in areas of SEQ with the current water restrictions in place!

Each time we go up the Beach, I ring the Local Council and tell them
where we have been, and I am about to wash the Truck & Van
to eliminate Corrosion, they give me a Complaint Number to register
the call, and a time period to do the job, just in case a inspector calls
in, the Neighbours dont worry, as they all have 4x4's, some times I will run the Sprinkler under the Vehicles for a short period of time,
even with the Water Restrictions they will permit this as long as you
are up front with them, they know there is just the two of us and
we use less water than a family with kids ect.

The guy who did my rustproofing said do not use these under body wash facilities as they affect the rustproofing, something to do with the additive in the water it takes the rustproofing off.

there's also a carlovers type place that you pass as you come back through gympie (assuming your heading home south). it's just after you cross the trainlines when you get back into gympie on the righthand side before you rejoin back on to the main highway.

DavidS,

As the others have confirmed there are underbody wash facilities at Rainbow Beach. Yes, you can do a 'pre' as well as a 'post' underbody wash. The facility also includes a manual car wash 'wand' to wash and rinse the rest of the car (and camper if applicable). Similar facilities are also located at Hervey Bay if you intend to enter/leave from that point.

You will have a great time at Fraser Island. We have just returned from a trip and enjoyed it immensely. Two tips that most people will suggest are 1 let your tyres down (I used 18psi) and 2 Don't drive too fast (although beach 'speed limit' is 80kph, there are a lot of areas where this speed is just plain foolish. You have tyo use your own judgement. Be careful driving at night (don't unless it is absolutely necessary) as the creeks discharge to the sea can sometimes make an 'invisible' cut in the sand of 1m or more.

Hope this was helpful. Have a great trip.
