Today for the first time I have seen at least two posts that have been "pulled" by the moderators. Can't comment on what was in those posts but I hope they are still on the ball tomorrow seeing it is Friday Funnies Day.

Seeing that every post is being closely monitored this might be their chance to say something about fridays.....are the Friday Funnies still allowed????? Because my goodness me if they arent there will be more people a little annoyed at the strict control of it. This is the first time ever that I have had 50 MM in one day...let alone ever!!!

Maybe David has taken to heart:-

'Why be difficult when with a little extra effort you can be bloody impossible'

Well, it is not that bad.

I think he (or whoever the moderator is) are doing a reasonably good job.

Mal,

Did you not get/read your members newsletter sent yesterday? It mentioned the new system and also linked to the new Forum terms Of use and Forum Rules Pages.

We had an omission about Friday Funnies in the rules document however I think Michelle added a comment on this today. Have a read when you get a chance.

PS: The new rules and system will be mentioned in today's users newsletter which will be sent in the next hour or two.

She had added it however it was under the OT rules so I created a new section called The Friday Funny Rule. Hope this helps.

David,

Whilst we are talking about changes to the Forum, I have noticed today that the time seems to have changed back and forth between QLD time and AESDT a few times today.

Not of any real significance other than my curiousity.

Jim.

I fixed the time process yesterday I thought - mind you I changed thousands of things yesterday. It should be showing the right time. Please see if you can duplicate an issue and I will take a look at it.

I thought i should say that it isn't fixed :-)

It only seems to be from some posters, not all. I would have thought that the time would be generated server side and as such, it wouldn't matter what timezone the poster was in.

Strange behaviour though as i see Gramps has responded to a post OVER an hour in advance. see here ===> http://www.exploroz.com/Forum/Topic/63046/Kakadu_entry_fees_returning.aspx?ky=&p=%2fForum%2fDefault.aspx%3fpn%3d1(time now 1644hrs)

Andrew,

It is to do with my caching system. Funny I just realised that this problem with the time should have been present always! If a user in WA caches the page (caching happens at various times due to all sorts of reasons) the cached file copy will have WA times in it, later on this post may be cached by a NSW person and this will change the cached file timings.

Strange as I mention I believe it has always done this and has never been brought up before. I will see if there is a way around it. I know there will be it is just trying to make it all hang together efficiently.

Thanks for that David.

It is strange that i have only noticed it within the last day or so, as i do have a glance at the times when reading/posting as it tells a lot sometimes :-)

Now i can let this problem go and leave you in peace :-)

One little thing thou the time on the index view should be adjusted to your local time - the caching will only effect the actual body of the thread when you are viewing it. Anyway I will see how I can go about solving this as the caching system is something very high on my task list to resolve. It really started to have an effect when we enabled the places word replacements on text on the site (you know the thing that make words like Sydney or Birdsville auto link to the places pages).

Anyway thanks I will get onto it in due course - I have the Anaconda Adventure Race on this weekend to contend with.

Yours is not the only IT area showing strange time/date;
Withdrew some money from an ATM last Friday night (Westpac) then checked the account balance on the internet later that weekend, and lo, it showed the transaction with Monday's date!
Beat that!

Gerry, that makes sense, as you were after close of business. I don't use ATMs but use Internet for banking. Much of this is done on weekends, and all amounts entered during the weekend show up immediately with the following business day's date (usually the Monday).

Hi Motherhen,
Yes I understand what you're saying, but "close of business" means that business is closed. Period. Yet even though it is closed, I still seem to be able to do all my banking from an ATM or the internet. Why then, must it fudge the date? I mean, if I get picked up for speeding by an automatic camera on a Saturday, is the ticket made out for a Monday, coz that's business hours? If I make a phone call on a Sunday, does my phone bill show it as being made on a Monday coz that's business hours?
Somehow, there is a mind-set that banking entries can only be made when there are human beings physically wandering around the bank, not during after-hours! What is wrong with recording the entry when it actually happens?
And to finish off, why did the ATM print the correct date on the receipt, but the bank show a different date on the internet banking record? I'm sure there is a perfectly simple explanation, but I haven't put my finger on it yet.
There! I've said my bit. Hope the moderator doesn't blow this away coz it's getting too OT :-)
cheers,
Gerry

I find this new system to be excellent.

In the past offending threads or followups simply disappeared. Few people knew what had been deleted or why.

Now we are all aware of what type of content is unsuitable and it helps set standards.

David told us it was coming and was needed to clean up the place. This was publicly welcomed by all who responded to his post.

Jim.

Jim,

Maybe I have missed something, but where on the forum does it tell you why a particular post has been pulled.

I have a second screen of the EO Forum open at the moment and just looking down the list of posts I notice that post # 63042 is missing, but there is nothing there that says why.

I just know its missing because post # 63041 & 63043 are there.

So I am doing a Pauline Hanson and saying "please explain"

Cheers,

Cruiser

Cruiser,

The one that you mention was a "test" post that David ran today and in it he said he would be deleting it.

Those that have been moderated are still there with the content deleted and a note that they have been moderated. The thread Kev mentioned is one and there was another today about a Paul Hogan movie.

Cheers

Jim.

Sir Kev & Darkie,

Thats fair enough but I still dont know why certian posts have been totally removed.

See Post # 63009, 62946, 62970, 62993, 63001, 63002, 63015, 63017, 63021, 63022, , 63025 and so on. All gone and nothing to indicate why.

My understanding was that the new system would simply moderate the post and explain why instead of simply pulling it off the site.

Cheers,

Cruiser

Crusier,

Do not be tricked the ThreadID numbers are not only used in the forum. You may notice that the article feedback system also uses the forum database (hence posts titled Feedback from XXX). As we figure that most feedbacks to articles can be answered by the community. However you will also notice in the article feedback box a little option to hide the feedback (send only to ExplorOz) - this basically loads the article feedback into the forum system database as a hidden (to the rest of the world) thread. We can open these threads to interact to read and interact with the feedback however to the forum system it looks like a hole in the id list.

There is no real way around this and is done by design. So do not think you have missed something it may be a simple article feedback directed at us.

I hope this answers your query.

Once again, thank you for the prompt and informative reply.

It does indeed explain the "missing" numbers in the post numbers.

I guess its all easy to understand when you have it explained.

If I had any comment to make about this site, and in particular the forum it is that the Forum Rules and the Terms of Use are not easy to find. I can only seem to find the Terms of Use at the bottom of every page in small print.

Maybe I have missed seeing them in some obvious place, but to be honest I would have thought there would be a link to them in a prominent place when you click onto forum, especially the Forum Rules.

If there is a prominent link, please tell me as I am willing to be corrected and educated.

Please dont get me wrong, I love this forum and the owners are doing a freat job to maintain it and also the standard of the forum, so please dont take this as negative comment, but constructive critisism.

Cheers,

Cruiser

Your observation is spot on Cruiser - but we're just busting a gust to roll it all out. Yes we are still building those finer navigation points, and the member newsletter yesterday was the only way to it until we had officially launched it to the full public (as mentioned you were the first to know). In a few moments, (when david's clients let him off the phone to get back to the coding) he will upload the links under the post new thread button.

Cruiser,

A big link exists in each of the Post New, Reply and FollowUp pages - you should see the right next to the entry box on each of these pages. Also I just added some links on the Forum Index page on the Forum Tab. Hope this helps. I will see how I go with adding them tot he view page (the page that shows the actual thread).

Thanks for the feedback.

I don't think we need to all be told that a thread has been pulled and why. Our moderators exercise their judgment in keeping the forum in line with the terms of use. A courtesy email to the originator of the thread is all that should be done.
