Hi all - just bought a camper and want to take a portable wc and shwr with us. We're looking at a gasmate instant LPG HWS and shower unit you can syphon
water from a bucket - but are open to suggestions.
What we wanted to find out - what shower/wc cubicles are easy to erect and that are sturdy? We're considering getting an annexe manufacturer to 'build' and attachment on the side of the van to accommodate a shower room but i'm concerned about too much mud next to the camper van. What are your experiences with shower &
toilet? and what floor do you put in - we are thinking of those foam interlocking squares with holes in them for drainage
We're looking at an extended trip with 2 early teens with app 50%
free camping and 50% van
park camping.

We have an Oztrail ensuite tent which self-erects out of the bag (getting it back into the bag is another story).
The shower is one of those 12v pump jobs which sits in a bucket of warm
water obtained from a solar black bag. I have an 18ah 12v battery which supplies the power and is charged via an anderson plug.
The jigsaw EVA mats are ok but tend to sit a bit close to the ground and bring the mud up so I would go for something a bit higher - like a
grid made from a rigid plastic - they are around.
Our portapottie sits in the tent as
well.
cheers

The springy green fold up tents can be good and bad. The bad ones are the cheap copies. The good ones are the "Change Shelter" from Smart Shade and now come in a large size that is probably 50% bigger than earlier versions. Its been the easiest to fold/unfold, and the extra space is great.
My preference underneath is a simple blue tarp, and place the showertent so the rear of it is downhill, so the
water drains away. IMO its easier to manage a dirty wet tarp than rubber mats etc.

I was disappointed that they discontinued the smaller size, although the good newswas that it made me look around & I found the
Diamantina Kwik-Up Change/ Shower Tent at Kangaroo Tent City, which in my opinion is as good, if not better.

We put the black matting down and we stand in a large plastic dish. The dish catches all the
water and soaks the tired & grotty feet. We have our shower right next to the annex - usually for 2 weeks straight. Many friends are now doing the same thing so there could be a large dish shortage.

Can't comment on the shower type, we use a solar black bag, but if you need something to stand on a bit above the ground try an inverted bread tray,(the ones bread is delivered to super markets in),it will fit into the shower tent, is plastic, fairly strong, and you can store the folded up shower tent and all the other stuff in it too when you are ready to move on.

Hi SB - been using this rig for about 5 yrs now -
Tents :
2 of the pop-up tents - one for the
toilet and one for the shower - both side by side (next to each other.)
One piece of Shade cloth (doubled) and long enough so it becomes the floor for both tents.
Hot
Water :
Coleman hotwater - portable and totally self contained - has own battery and gas bottle. Get a bucket of
water - (we also have a 5 micron
water filter, so if the
water in a dam or
creek is muddy etc, we run it through the filter .) Use the Coleman to heat the
water to desired temp, then turn it to pump-only, and have a longggg shower. The Coleman recharges on 12V, so plug it into the car or camper battery to recharge while traveling.
The only downside is you have to erect 2 tents, but they are pop-up = quick. The convenience of an ensuite is worth the extra trouble. (If you could buy a single pop-up, with the space of 2 and with an internal divide, it would be perfect.)
Setting up etc soon becomes a standard part of arrival/departure.
Fairly economical; quick to setup and pull down; convenient to store and carry; effective.
