Hi all,
Heading over Elliston way late Dec.
Just wondering what the bush camping is like North of here?
There is a place called Walker's Rock's is that any good for both camping and beach fishing?
Looking to camp close as possible to the beach and get some fishing in between playing with kids & dog.
Dont need facilities self sufficient.

Appreciate any feed back.

Cheers
Paul.

Not sure of the legalities of bush camping at Walkers Rocks or Talia Caves but they are magic places for scenery fishing and just being there. There are some very good cara parks at Elliston, Venus Bay and Streaky Bay with great fishing at each place with or without a boat.
Check out these links http://www.satravel.net.au/eyre-peninsula.htmlhttp://www.oztravel.com.au/travel_mall/destinations/Eyre_Peninsula_SA1.html
And after you get back and have had a great time don't tell anybody as we are trying to keep it a secret.

Mal, in 2005, Walker's Rocks was honesty box camping with facilities, and there were lots of people staying there and going fishing. We were going to stay, but the weather turned awful.

Paul, I don't know if dogs were permitted at Walkers Rocks. Talia Caves was No Camping. We found plenty of spots to bush camp around the Eyre, but at Elliston stayed at the CP near the jetty (which was very good) as we hoped to catch fish from the jetty. Although it was January, the weather was cold and wet and the fish weren't hanging around in that weather, so i didn't stay long either.

Another nice spot on the coast a bit further north is Haslam. Honesty box camping right by the jetty.

Thanks for the links.
Checked them out all info is helpful.
Keen to stay out of the parks even though they look good.
I think I have dropped in to Haslam once before when heading up the Streaky Bay.
With such a nice coast line im sure I'll find a nice spot for the family to camp.
Who knows may even get to Smoky Bay or Fowlers bay.

Thanks for the info

Hi Azoorc

We camped at Walkers Rocks for a few night a couple of weeks ago. Facilities are 1 toilet and 1 cold shower. TRied fishing but no luck at all. It is an authorised camp ground and charges per night are Vehicle $5 per person $2 i.e. $9 per night for 2 people.

Good camping

John

you can fish off the cliffs just nth of Eliston for nice sweep. Talia south of Elliston was one of the best places for Salmon on the EP (no camping) Taliabeach can produce anything I have pulled in snapper, gummies and salmon. Just to the North of the Washtub at taliais the ledge (used to take some finding but probaballly has a car park now) where you can fish stright down to deep water.
Dolphins beach (now renamed mt camel beach) use to be a great spot for close inshore gutters small salmon, mullet and tommies

all this info is 15 to 20 years old s forgive me if it is fished out now but back then we had to sneak through farmers padocks to get to some of the spots
