Rob,
Dirty:-))
The track is generally in very good condition, but like any dirt track, the condition can vary according to weather patterns.
Any dirt track will deteriorate following rain.
Don't think there has been much rain in the region.

I drove it about 4weeks ago.
I commented then that it is probably the best dirt road I have ever driven.
I was able to hold 90-100 towing a camper trailer.

Nothing is guaranteed of course, but in recent years that section has been a lot like the pic below - taken winter 06 as I recall. I keep a few road surface examples on my site at ...........

The track condition can change within two hours based on rain, particularly at this time of the year. As
well it depends on track conditions from the direction you are travelling from. From your query it appears you are heading up the
Oodnadatta Track?
You should check with the Dept of Transport outback road report which can be linked from this website as
well you can always check with the pub at William Ck for the latest update. Equally ring the
Coober Pedy postie who does the run every day for the best information you can get and when you get to
Coober Pedy buy him a beer as a thank you
