Long range tank and lift for NP Pajero petrol

Hi All,
I have an NP Pajero petrol and of course it only carries 80 Litres as standard so to do a desert crossing next year I will need a long range tank fitted. It is a 7 seater but don't need the last row of seats and currently I carry my 60L Waeco in the seat well. Will I lose tis space with an aux. tank?? So some advice please on which one is the best for me. Also, your suggestions on how much to lift her up and again what to fit to do this job.

Hi takenbyaliens.
Have a look at thePajero 4wd club of Victoria forum.
There is a section under Generation 3 Pajero which has had many postings on the fitment of long range fuel tanks.
I have hd raised King springs & bilsteins fitted to my NP & the off road ride is great.

I have an Aux tank in my NP DID, and my neighbour has one in his NM Petrol Exceed. The tanks fit under the rear seat-well and you dont loose the under-floor space. You also dont loose any departure angle due to their design. Ours is a 60L but you can get an 85L if yours is not an exceed (rear AC gets in the way). I highly recommend fitting one. With the DID we get just on 1500km touring range on the two tanks. We used to get about 1100 in our older 3.5L V6 NM with the same setup.

Brown Davis and Longranger both do tanks for these, and they look remarkably similar to the one to the right under article overview.

Add a 2" lift and you will never look back.

Thanks for that. Mine is the 25th anniversary model so not an exceed. so maybe I can get to an 85l tank. i figure I need a max of 160L all up with plenty of leeway and I will carry one jerry as well just to be sure.

Just had a look at Longranger. They only do a 60L. Who does an 85L do you know??

Longranger definitely do a larger one. But you know, Im not sure I would bother. 60L might not sound like a lot extra but it seemed to make all the difference to our touring ability. We crossed the Simpson in out V6 with the two tanks and one 20L jerry for good measure which we didnt need.

As mentioned go to the Paj. site, all this stuff is there.
I have an NM petrol with TJM suspension and a LONG RANGE AUTOMOTIVE 81L aux. tank. You will not lose any internal space. It looks like the type in the little eo box. Your main tank should hold 92L. Hangs down a bit, it did scrape a few times on the sandhills, but we had plenty on. Yet to try it in rocky terrain, that will really test its departure angle.
This setup was put on for exactly what you plan to do.
Pricing for the tank ranged from 1370-1550, both prices fitted. Obviously I went for the cheaper which was TJM.
With a full load airbags may assist. We had some sag at the very start of the trip with a full load, this improved rapidly as the fuel, water etc. was used.
I didnt fit the bags as most 4x4 outlets thought we should be right. However we dont have a bullbar, dual battery and other extra heavy accessories, you might be different.

Yes we have bullbar dual battery etc so will be loaded as all up we will be away close on a month. Had a look at the Paj site and found some info there. Thanks for your lead will follow up re TJM

TJM have just quoted me 1550 for the tank fitted. So prices have obviously gone up since you had yours in. About the same money quoted for TJM suspension as well - 1500. Bilsteins however just over 2100 fitted. Are they worth the extra 600????

From memory I paid 2960ish for suspension and tank.
TJM dont make rear shocks for an NM, they use bilsteins in conjunction with their own stuff, thats what they told me anyway.
As you would have read on the paj site, stick with any of the main brands and you wont go wrong.
I simply picked mine on price in the end and they had the longest warranty.
