What economy are you getting? And is this your daily driver, city or highway?

I had a 2001 pathy - used to get 16-17L/100km around town and about 12-12.5L/100km on the highway.
I don't think you can expect to get fantastic economy from them. Maybe consider lpg (but you'll need a rear-wheel-carrier and upgraded suspension (if you don't already have it)).
pcoa forums (google it) would probably have some more info.

I have a 2003 and I get about 6km / Lt around town and up to around 8km / Lt open road which is a lot better than my previous petrol / LPG 60 series Landcruiser and then a 94 Patrol which both got around 4km /Lt around town.
I have done the maths to change to LPG ,at the current rates it would take me around two years plus to pay for itself ,when you factor in the spare carrier rear, suspension mods ,that did not get me past having to open the spare each time I want rear acsess which was a pain with the Toyota

The standard things to help :
Service well and dyno tune
Tyres at the upper pressure for that brand of tyre
Wheel alignment
Automatic problems = service
Some cars are more economical to run on higher octane petrol

Good luck
Vic

Vic Did you take the motor out of those cars and thats how much water you drank pushing them? Im a sceptic when it comes to fuel figures like those. I will be hard to convince. Cheers Tony

Don't know the actual figure .... but it's horrible.
Herself's '97 Pathy is an absolute glutton. Worse than a V8 Disco I had.

Feathery, we own a '99 Pathy and it seems to guzzle as much as do all the others. I tow about a tonne loaded and I'm on LPG. On trips towing it's 3.5 km /L into winds, average about 4 km/L and if I'm lucky i might get 225 km from my 50L of gas. On petrol 70L will get us 350km so it's not much better. Not towing on gas its 4.6 km/L around town and the best I ever got on a trip was 6.3 km/L . Our Cape York trip was 11,250 km and cost 24.3 cents per km thanks to being on LPG from Sydney to Cooktown.
Changing the subject, I noticed your reply to post 63425 reDargo to Mansfield via Wonnangatta. You towed a camper with the Pathy and gave indication it was easy. We would like to do this route in January. Please contact me for further discussion at hughesgl@hotmail.com. My van is on my members page. Do you think I'll make it? Thanks, Glenn

With the figures you say you are getting, there is really nothing more you can do. That's typically what v6 petrol wagon 4wd's get (even the new ones). and is pretty good for a Pathy. You could spend hundreds on dubious fuel efficiency products to gain 0.5l every 100km, but this is crazy (the ole "save a penny, spend a pound" theory).

However, IF you want fuel savings, and are hanging on to the car, then LPG it!!

cheers
Mark
