Just after a little info on trailer plug wiring, on a car i have has got a 7 pin plug connection and the trailer has a 5/7 pin plug connection.
The wiring on the 7 pin plug is as follows.
1 yellow, left ind
2 black, Aux
3 white, Earth
4 green, Right ind
5 blue, Elec Brake
6 red, Stop
7 brown, tail rego
5/7 pin plug
1 not used
2 yellow, left ind
3 white, Earth
4 not used
5 green, Right ind
6 red, Stop
7 Brown, tail rego
Ok what my question is can i bridge on the 5/7 plug
1 and 2 so i have left indicators
4 and 5 so i have right indicators
the reason why i want to do this is because some time the trailer is pulled by a car that has a 5 pin plug on it
Also would this do any damage to any other car wiring, with either a 5 or 7 pin plug.
Regards........Steve

Can not see why you could not. It will all line up good. Just do not plug somthing in with electric brakes or Aux supply :-). Cheers Tony

The easiest way is to have a short patch lead with the bridging in it.
When connecting the trailer to a 5 pin configured socket the bridging will enable the indicators to operate successfully.
When connecting the trailer to a 7 pin configured socket, you don't need the patch lead, assuming the trailer is configured for seven pin wiring.

Standardise all your plugs maybe to a 7 pin, alot easier than stuffing around with adapters.

Hi Stephen,
I wired up exactly as you have described and it works fine as long as you don't need electric brakes.
