Is LPG availlable out of the major cities?

All the major road routes throughout the country will have gas available. Once you leave the main routes you may be hard pressed to find gas outlets. You will have to carry quite a few jerry cans of spare petrol with you. Happy travels.

you cannot tell the volume of your modified tank by going to the pertol station to fill up unlesds you let it run out completely . Gas is available "almost" everywhere

I've let it run out completely and the volume is ca. 48l. This is enough for 320 km on normal roads, but the consumption off road will be much higher. I don't know how far I can go on gas, but when I've bought the car, I thought that the gas bottle could be used as a spare tank.

Is it normal that you have to make the petrol tank smaller, when you build in a gas tank on the bottom of the car?

If you are travelling through the desert regions, the Hema Great Desert Tracks maps show the towns with LPG ie you can purchase LPG almost anywhere around Alice Springs, Ayers Rock, Kings Canyon etc. I find the maps extremely helpful when planning trips.Just Do It!

Hi Torsten, You wont find LPG above cairns, townsville, mossman, but not sure about weipa... When gas is installed into 4x4's, the gas tank goes where the original tank used to be and then a smaller tank is put under one side of the car..... I just drove to cape york and had to carry 3 jerries because of lack of gas up there.....
And these aftermarket petrol tanks are notorious for splitting when punished by the corrigated roads up north so make sure you keep your gas tank full when you get high up about lpg outlets........you may have to rely on it.....
I was puting in 60litres of petrol and getting about 80kms because of the split and there were more than just me with that problem......
If your car still has the copper fill line going to the gas tank from the filler i would suggest you get it changed to the newer flexible type before you leave on such a journey because the copper lines tend the break at the flare.... it is a pain when you have got leaking petrol tank and you finally get to a lpg supplier and you pump the gas straight to the sidewalk.... only costs $45 for the modification......_____________________________________________

Gas is available at Cooktown..you will get about 2/3rds or a bit better the mileage out of gas that you get with petrol..or we do in the Falcon towing a 17ft poptop .There was not many places around Oz that we could not get gas...but then we did not go in to the real off road outback places either due to only having 2wd ....cheers
