Very patchy mate sometimes it works sometimes doesn't. If you stand on a hill it seems to be alright and I can get 2 bars

Hi Fishlluva74 Phone coverage mainly near the access points of the beach to about 3-5 kay, if you have a car kit with an external antenna maybe further. Mainly uhf on the beach thou. i am up that way anyway, for chrissy from the 26th to the 3rd!

here is a link that will give you a rough guide!

http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile/networks/coverage/maps_location.cfm

dark orange:Voice, Picture, TV, Video & Broadband
orange: Voice, Picture, TV, Video & Broadband with an external antenna
cream: Telstra Mobile Satellite Telstra Shops

Approximate coverage. Coverage speed and performance is dependent on where you are, the handset you are using and can be improved by adding an external antenna.

I hope this helps!

have a good one and see you up the beach, i'll be at inskip point if you want to come over and chat!

Thanks Christopher. Looks like broadband will be a no show then. Doesn't bother me but the missus is starting a new job so i guess she can trek down towards Noosa a couple of times to do business while i wet a line. If only life was always this inconvenient

X2 what troll said.
we were abit further south of freshwater, i could see Noosa standing on the beach and managed to make a couple of calls, several times it just dropped out in the middle of a call then afterwards was lucky to be able to even send a message with it.

if you need to make some calls from there use your blue tooth headset or your wired headset and hold the phone higher as anything with water in it i.e. human head trees will interfere with signal.

Fishluva74 if you can park near one of the nodes then you can get signal and use a external antenna on your fourby as a ground plane plus a piece of card with aluminmum foil pasted across the board board bent into a parabolic reflector you might be able to get a decent bb signal.

Thanks to all responses. Turns out it is not so urgent to have the coverage anyway so we can just enjoy ourselves. We have got an external aerial for the air card which in general, if you can get 1 bar of service works well. As far as equipment, you can't beat nokia for phones and telstra for coverage. If you take on anything else outside Brisbane, speaking from previous experiences both work and play, you are taking on inferior products. Of course budget and availability always play a part but i recommend paying the extra where possible up front cos it will save you in the long term.

This is all down to your telco and the phone you use. Unfortunately, Telstra have the monopoly on NextG coverage so if you're not with them then your options are already restricted.

I recently bought a Samsung A411 prepaid - this is a Telstra only phone. While I hate to praise the barstewards this was the only mobile phone that worked in Winton out of 12 available. It works very well but Telstra charge like a wounded bull for connection. Because I now need to be connected out there I have no choice. I suspect that mobile coverage with 3G is dodgy but NextG would work.

As you're obviously with Telstra I'd check it out.

The A411 is available for $99 from all outlets.
