Here is the Ant Hill Remover as discussed a week or so ago.

It is adjustable in height and set at the lowest level pictured. It cannot do damage to anything underneath the vehicle even if pushed back to its extreme reach.

Now all I need is somewhere to try it out :-)

Would love to play with that!

Not many ant hills in the Sydney Metro area though.

I like that!

Great piece of Aussie bush ingenuity.

As for testing it, there's a bloke in Sydney who's really passionate about bullbars and hasn't had any air time for ages, I think his name is Harry or something like that!

You could send him some pictures, I'm sure he'll have some really useful suggestions!

Jeez W, you've got a bit too much time on your hand methinks! All I can see is you catching and dragging up timber. What about extending the steel down from the base of the bullbar by 100mm to form a deflection barrier. You could further reinforce it with gussetts at the points where the bullbar is moulded.

Better still you could just let someone else go first for a while! Saves your tyres too!

Cheers. Mick

Mick

I'm retired, remember? Hence there are no time constraints. Now you trot along and go back to work!

The height is adjustable. Yes, I do think it will catch sticks and logs but that is what I want to achieve. Hopefully it will remove some of the spinifex seeds low down as well. It remains to be seen how effective it will be. Anyway, it will get a thorough testing next year. I do look where I drive too and so will stay clear of some objects on the ground.

It could be the answer you've been looking for.
Looks good from here...where are you going to carry it when on road I wonder?

Also that paint work looks in good for a bush vehicle..no scrub bars ? ... I'd think that by now the vehicle might at least look like a plumbers convention LOL

Footy

Device (for the wont of a better word) will be carried at front of trailer in a bag of sorts.

The GQ's paintwork was a lot brighter at one stage...lol. I can send you photos of the permanent scratches and dints if you wish.

Like that idea Hairy,

Prefer a hydraulic ram rather than the cable tho ... that way, when a "I wasnt looking" Harry type walks out in front and gets collected, you can keep them pinned to the bar until a suitable disposal point is found ... LOLOL

Hi Willem,
I have tried something similar in the past and finished up bending the angel iron that the chains dropped down from. It did break off the very tops of the ant hills but left the rest still high enough to hit the bull bar and front diff. I also hooking up some decent size branches one of which pierced the spinafex net and radiator. Finished up discarding 'Ant Hill Remover'. Just a bit of my experience if any help

Thanks George

I am expecting something like what you say, but have to try it out anyway. It depends on where one is driving. I expect that the ends may bend and will be able to adjust that when in situ.

I am very careful when driving offtrack but this year a stick dislodged my fan and steering belts when it snuck up past the radiator.

I am still to devise a new spinifex seed collector to go over the front of the GQ. This past trip I had one doubled up but that took too much cool air away from the radiator.

I keep on devising new ideas to help with the hobby of camping and going to remote places. I will let you know at the end of August next year how it went :-)

Cheers

Willem, you could always reinforce the bonnet, attach a slide and hinge mechanism so that it flips over in front of the bullbar so you look like a 'grader', and you also have no more problems with cooling the radiator with no bonnet :))

keep up the inventions + better still keep up the photos too

cheers ...

Hey Willem.

What about this Idea, I have seen some of Parks car with a set-up for bush bashing, there are 2 pieces of pipe welded to the bottom of the bull-bar on an 30 degree angle forward and a piece of pipe welded across sitting just below the steering arms, it was also inside the tyre track, this didn't look intrusive it was out of the way and permanent.

If you didn't want it permanent you could probably weld some short stubs on the bull-bar and have the cross member as a bolt on.

Cheers Steve.

Hey Willem,

I hope your idea works out ... if it doesnt, you could always paint your whole rig bright red and put some International Harvester badges on it ... lolol

Another design thought is .... similiar to the train cow catcher. Two vertical sections that slide/lock/locate over the lower horizontal bar tubes and bolt to the tow points

Under the bar is a joining section of a series of 50mm/75mm flat with the edge facing forward. Stong enough for a bump and should slice and dice anthills as well as rake sticks.

May not have the flexibility of chain though.

Do you know why God gave vehicles steering wheels.

I thing this post reflects a bit of environmental vandalism and would do nothing to promote our recreation.
