need new seats

hello, i have a 2001 troopy. i bought the vehicle for $17k in 1999 and have spent about $6k doing everything from flywheel back (including new tfer case) in alice springs, then spent another $6k on new cylinder head and various other maintenance stuff in brisbane. i have also spent in excess of $2k on lights, sensors, wheels, batteries etc. finally locked the hubs in doing simpson french line june2007 as sole support for 5 bikes. completely full from the ground up plus roof. The old fella answered every challenge with a novice behind the wheel. only real problem was seats. Fundamentally, we might as well have been sitting on the chassis while we were going over the 1500 south north dunes. So, while my back is still in ok shape, i ask everyone out there who knows anything about seating to help me. i want to do a lot more seeing Australia but need decent seat. Opp lock and top gear in alice can supply, but are there any better options.

It is well publicised on this site that I have a screwed back (literally).
I had a Stratos LTSS seat fitted this year and have travelled about 10k with it fitted and absolutely love it. They are very easy to fit yourself as the base uses existing mounting points.

HTH

Cheers Kev

Hi Kev, interested in your comments as I have bought one of these and I dislike it so much its out of the vehicle and being sold so I can try something else. Its probably because I am a phat bugger (120kgs) but I find the seat very narrow in the back to the point thats its uncomfortable as it digs into each side of me instead of allowing me to sit into it. The built in lumbar is awesome though. I don't like the fact I can't lay the seat back when I want a roadside snooze and I don't like the fact I can't lock the suspension out if desired (like on the old NF Pajero suspension seats). On top of this, the suspension ram blew and leaked hydraulic oild all through my carpet. I must say that the suspension system works well though. I have since tried sitting in the Paratus seats and they are all much wider and much more comfortable for me. I reckon if you are a big fella, you'd really want to stear clear of the stratos.

We've had Scheel seats in all our 4wd vehicles for over 30 years, they spent many years in troopies and work well.
Might be hard to get in Oz now unless s/hand but recaro's are just as good and will last many years if looked after.

Fitted Holden Commodore 97 bucket seats to mine...about $300 all up (seats plus other installation bits) and they work fine.

i got some secondhand SAAS pump up lumbar support seats off of ebay for my 105 series cruiser. $500 for the seats (near new condition), another $50 in steel to manufacture new bases and then about $80 from memory to get them complianced.
