Got a call out and not having filled ute the night before, grabbed a jerrycan from the garage and poured in 23 litres. But wait..... didn't smell right so poured the last few drops over my hand.
F. H . It's petrol !!!!!!!!!
The good news. Ford have had a bolt plug set into the bottom of the tank and you don't even need to remove the heavy bash plate that protects the tank. Has a cutout and you just just stick the 17 mm socket on and if you park the vehicle nose up on a slope, you can get everything out (surprised therre was no water).
Next tip.. Want to get max fuel in for a trip. After filling at servo, get it on a slope nose down and you can get another 5-6 litres in, even more if you get the RHS up. Is there a list of servos that are on a 15 degree slope?
Fuel guage is very pessimistic. When on 1/4 mark, there are 23 litres still in tank. This is for 2.5 l engine which I, being a tightarse, wanted for its economy. Is doing 15 kms to the liitre i.e 6.6l /100km. (are you watching, Jim from B O R ?)
Yes, they're ugly looking things (all rangers) and I was so close to buying a Nissan but I did what some people manage to do when they're offered their first dose of crystal meth.

Don't laugh, at my place of employment we have a supposedly secure car park (6 foot fence and automatic gates, cameras etc) but over a weekend someone came in and unbolted and stole the ENTIRE full fuel tank from a company commodore station wagon. It was immediately apparent by the two retaining straps from the tank hanging down on the ground when the staff arrived Monday morning.

Amazing the front of some people.

Honestly if you don't have security guards it is not a secure carpark.

hi there

even with security, it doesn't always deter them. we had a brand new L300 van at work, in the back lot waith all the new stock, someone jumped the fence and stole the wheels off it as well as the sliding door. No prints, no damage.... Unbelievable

Well,

Seeing as you have asked for my input, I'll give it.

Firstly I find 6.6L/100km remarkable. The Govt figures for your vehicle are 8.2. I've never known anyone who has achieved the Govt figures in normal driving, let alone better them by 20%. I'm not saying it can't be done, but would require a very sedate driving style.

Anyway, assuming 6.6 is possible (and diesel at $1.30 a litre) fuel cost would be $8.58 per 100 km. My V6 ute uses 17L/100 km (and I don't drive sedately) of LPG (at $0.48), equating to $8.16 per 100 km.

Of course you may live in an area where it is more economically viabe to run diesel. I do not.

Some people seem to think I gave some emotional connection to LPG. This is just not so. The only subjective factor that influences my decision is that I prefer the way Petrol vehicles drive. That I can run one cheaper than a diesel is a bonus for me.

I am a businessman. Cost control is very important to me. I'm pretty good with numbers and analyse things financially before making a decision.

I try to share this from time to time to allow others to factor it into their decisions, nothing more, nothing less.

Cheers,

Jim.

Was winding you up Jim because i know you have fallen in love with the V6 4 litre petrol motor you have and you have suggested that this was a better choice than a diesel engine.
Over one 35000 km period as courier vehicle, I got average of 14.916kms per litre and since this was stop start stuff I know that it will do well over 15 when I just run straight to Brizzy and back.
( Have done tank fill figs to verify )
I run at 90kph because I figure that by the time you hit Tanah Merah, everyone is down to this speed so not much point in racing to this point on the M1.
Going to Sydney at 100kph it does 15kms per litre.
At $1.30 per litre I'm paying $8.66 per 100kms, very close to your gas figure.
I bought a diesel because Ford were only doing the Ranger in a diesel and for the price wasn't much more than a gutless 4 cylinder petrol that other utes have. This is a very torquey engine
and nice to drive with changes at 2000rpm. i can tell you that fewer gear changes are very welcome when you have to change thousands of times each day. I'm doing 2 and a half thou kms per week so the motor needs to last a long time.

BUT, would I buy a diesel car for 20k mileage per year. NO

P.S. Dont really look but I think gas is 65-69 here so your economics would suffer.
