Hi all,
I am new to this site and was hoping that you experienced travellers could advise me where I could go for a few days camping away from the crowds around the sunshine coast? I have a 4WD and camper trailer light off road.
thanks in antipication,

If you are planning to go camping over Christmas, you will find most
Camping Areas & Caravan Parks will be booked out, if you dont mind
going with out the Facilities such as Showers & Toilets ect, and you
take your own, try going up to Teewah Beach, it will be busy up
there but if you get up there early you should get a Camp Site,
just watch your kids with the beach traffic.

Cheers

Personally I like the Kenilworth/Imbil/Amamoor/Jimna areas.

(be down there for a few days next week in fact)

I steer well clear of Teewah when it's "camping season" way too many idiots (old and young) all competing in their testosterone displays, in one place to make it a family venue anymore.

Cheers

Hard to go camping away from the crowds near the Sunshine coast, peacefull isolated spots just don't exist. John's landing is a private property on the banks of the Noosa river. Sometimes you can be lucky here and get a decent camp but mostly it also is busy. Has been a bit feral (other campers) on a few occassions we have been there. I also like Borumba Deer Park near Imbil, they tend not to allow themselves to get over booked and mostly it is not bad. The lower terrace has no power but is very close to the creek for swimming and playing in.

Hope these are helpfull, enjoy.
Regards, Trevor.

During summer school holidays you are unlikely to find a quiet camping spot anywhere near a beach on the Sunshine coast.

We have enjoyed Peachtrees Campground at Jimna. This gets busy at times but there is usually plenty of shade and space. You had to register with the Qld Department of Forestry but I think it is now controlled by the National Parks and you register on line. You can have campfires but you have to take you own wood.

Neurum Creek Camping Ground near Kilcoy is also a very pleasant spot. It is privately run and firewood is delivered to your site for a modest charge. Sites are mostly large and shady and the place is usually quiet and relaxed.

Both places have safe swimming in creek waterholes and, as there has been plenty of rain, the swimming should be good. Neurum Creek also is safe for canoing.
Good luck! Lynne

Depending on what you are looking for you could also try Peach Trees, Kenilworth Homestead or Little Yabba. All west of the range but good spots. As others have said you will be hard pushed to find an isolated spot at this time of year. I find my own front yard is best.

As per above.. "camping AWAY from the crowds" and "Sunshine Coast" should not even be mentioned in the same sentence around this time of the year. Good luck. take ear plugs and a blind fold and it might start to feel almost like you can get away.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and ideas....I did realise that at this time of year it would be hard to find a place that is isolated away from the crowds but I thought that I'd ask anyway...

I may just stay home and pitch up the camper in the cow paddock...LOL

Merry xmas to all and safe travelling :-)

Kilkivan Bush Caravan park is quite pleasant. Just a few km's NW of Gympie.
Don't know how busy it gets at this time of the year.
