Hi,
i'm planning a trip from
Sydney down to
Geelong between Xmas and new years. i'm a
geelong local and will be travelling up to
Sydney on boxing day to see family. i plan to spend a week or so cruising down the coast with the swag.
I'm wondering if anyone can recommend some nice areas to visit and some
places that have nice areas to
camp, preferably where bookings are not required...
i'm travelling in a 4WD but as the only car so i'm hesitant to venture to far into 4WD territory.
any recommendations/ suggestions would be greatly appreciated
cheers
Jackson

Ho Ho ho.
ALL of the coastal campsites south of
Sydney down to
Merimbula /Eden will be chocablock even before Christmas. As the locals explained to me they set up
camp in the National parks a week before christmas to grab
the spot, even though they do not go until boxing day or later.
Most of the National Parks have a ballot system for holidays where it is not a free for all.eg
Green Patch at Jervis Bay.
I got the last spot at
Tathra a couple of years ago, but it is pot luck, and that was a caravan
park which was about the 6th place I tried.
You may have better luck going inland to say Bendethra or Moreton National
Park.

Good luck with finding somewhere on the coast between Syd and border. I live in Nowra and when we've gone
camping around this time of yr we always booked 12 months ahead of ourselves to make sure we could get in. Everywhere will be packed - every caravan
park everywhere, they are already coming down in massive numbers!
But for
places to stay etc. I would be trying somewhere just south of
Ulladulla, fishermans paradise is on the river and you could quietly set ya swag up down there, maybe like Burrill Pines, dont bother with anything around termeil - merry beach, racecourse and pretty beaches - they will be packed, although your best bet with those will be
pretty beach as its less commercialised.
Batemans bay will be chockas so maybe something around mogo which is a little further south - there is a road that heads east from mogo to somewhere (You have to go past the mogo zoo), cannt remember the name, which is on
the beach but not sure if there is a caravan
park etc,
as for anything else down south of the border I cannt really help, but Im sure there are a few nice
places which someone will know about.....
good luck

should have added.....if needed head towards racecourse, merry and pretty beaches from termeil and when you get to the very end of that road (about 15 minutes) instead of turning right to head to the caravan parks, shops etc, turn left and down there there is a little beach, signs say no
camping, but if desperate, that could always be an idea......

Hi,
There are actually some free NP campsites about 5min north of Termiel , in the Termiel
State Forest , right at the
Termeil lake outlet .
Map link !
2 yrs ago I stayed there for 10 days right after Christmas and it wasnt really bus let alone full, Its a bit tight to get a car down the track , but a Kombi or better and its good.
Otherwise if you follow a couple of the tracks to
the beach in this area ,you should find a spot to stay overnight .
Hope this helps
Glenn

The road is called Blackbutt road on the map , pretty sure its not signposted , just a NP
sign and a track .
Pretty sure Lemontree road is posted , if you get to lemon tree
creek turn around and its the first track on the left heading south.

Hi
The area between Lake Conjola and
Batemans Bay is definiteley my favourite place to go
camping , you are spoiled for choice .
Dont normally do school holidays , exept last year , we did Xmas/New Year at Lake Conjola , Packed in like sardines and very noisey , but thats the nature of the beast!!
You can definitley find some good free camps in a swag,my gamest one has been behind a golf club right on
the beach ; )
Glenn.

I second Deua, turn inland at mogo town to Araluen and
camp at Dry
Creek Camping Area - check for the nicer spots along the
creek and not up high. A fun way out is to Bendethra and then back to the coast, but DONT do this in the wet.
Lake Cojola (before
Milton) is also a wonderful place but will be chockas, and there is limited
bush camps.

Shallow crossing, on the Clyde river is nice. To get there turn right just after the East Lynne roadhouse/pie
shop, south of
Ulladulla. It's not too far in from the highway.
If it's crowded, you can continue along the dirt road and there are a number of bush campsites at various spots on the river. This road comes out at Nelligan, near
Batemans Bay.
