I left home mid afternoon on the 23rd of December en route to Jabiru to spend Xmas with Steve , Anja, and young Phillip, I stopped at Noonamah to top up the fuel tanks, grabbed an Iced Coffee and headed off along the Arnhem Hwy toward Jabiru with intentions of camping out for the night and then arrive at Steve's in the morning, I stopped at the Windows on the Wetlands just to snap a couple of photo's for Crazy Dog because he missed it when he was up here. Around 7:30 pm I stopped at a truck parking bay for a bite to eat and a coffee, I should have made that the overnight stop but decided to go a little further so I'd only have around 60Klm to do in the morning, I found a bay and in I went, it was just starting to drizzle rain with a lot of lightning further East , I thought now would be a good time for a shower using the great system I have in the Troopy which is an 80 Ltr water tank with a 12 pump mounted on the right side with an outlet and tap fixed to the bed end, So off the clothes, turned on the pump and next thing I was attacked by all the Mozzies within I reckon a 5Klm radius , I shone the torch into the car and it was like a cloud in there , hurriedly finished the cut short shower , then out with the Mortien and sprayed them, Thinking this is not going to be the ideal camp spot I decided to head straight into Jabiru, gave Steve a call when in phone range and he dragged himself out of bed , put all the Chrissy lights on and had the can of Mid Strength on the table before I could scratch the mozzie bites, Next day , 24th I thought...and Steve thought we were going fishing.....WRONG, Anja had already made plans that we would be going on a 6K round trip walk to Gubara Pools,

so that's exactly what we all did, 5 adults and 3 kids, in the rain but it was well worth the walk , what wonderful scenery it is in the wet season and the Monsoonal Forest is just beautiful,

Xmas day was reasonably quiet with Steve and Mal and myself battling for poll position at Bathurst's Mt Panorama on Phillips Xmas present being a Play Station, I think it Steve who got our Lap record between the Beers , Young Phillip also got a little 50cc Motor Bike, was great to see Father, Mother and Son having fun with that.

They then served up a very tasty Xmas lunch, then more laps at Bathurst between the beers, Checked out the OKA No 2 Steve just acquired from Cairns then it was Nanny Nap time ,

In the evening Steve had a couple of locals visit for the Evening meal of fruits, Prawns, Ham, ...... and more BEER, next day it was time to head back home with great memories of Xmas 2008, Once again Steve and Anja's hospitality shone with brilliance like the Kakadu Sun....Thanks Steve and Anja ,

Great shots Doug,

I must put the place on my list of places to see.

Sounds like you had a good trip, apart from those little flying devils (thank god for that environmentally friendly mortein yeah) and an even better Christmas Day.

Cheers.

Hey Doug.

I was a pleasure to have you for Xmas, We couldn't let you have Xmas on your own.

Mal has been home and is on his way here again, this time to go fishing as originally planed, Philip has gone into Darwin with his aunt and cousins for a couple of weeks.

Anja wants a Bike now as well, so I am doing some ringing around to see if I can find a couple of good second hand bikes, she wants a 250 and I have my eye on a 450, so see how we go.

Happy New Year to the 3 of you.

Cheers Steve.

Steve
You probably sent him to Darwin so you can mess with the Play Station.....

Hi, Doug!

Well, the thing was that we had a bit of a discussion about the entertainment program the night before you arrived -- and we decided unanimously for Gubara and against fishing...
just that Steve couldn't remember we even had this discussion the next day...
ROFL

Hope, you enjoyed it anyway!
It is one of my favourite walks -- any time of the year!

We've got footage of Flip on the bike as well, I just don't find it appropriate to post a link to it here (hoping for everyone's kind understanding).

Doug, I had the best Xmas ever, and having you here made it even more wortwhile!

Cheers
Anja
