On behalf of son & family, I am looking for your advice on camping
locations in the
Mudgee area for Autumn school holidays.
Ideally, would like water to swim...fish...canoe on.
Toilets a
welcome asset, power not necessary. Anywhere within 100k
is ok. Thanks....oldbaz. "oh, & I suppose it is ok to take your
C/t, Dad ??? ". ....sigh.

Oldbaz,
Dunn's
Swamp (Wollemi NP) is a beaut spot, has everything you're looking for. Nat Parks was doing some work there recently, upgrading facilities, so
check the website or give them a call. We,ve been there many times, one of our favourite spots. Swimming fishing boating and a nice walking track with spectacular
views. It does get very busy during
Easter.

Goulburn River National Park Oldbaz. Long drop
toilets, river that may be up or down a bit and nice scenery. No power but you can take a CT or parts of it a caravan. We took our Karavan in through Wollar. It is NE of
Mudgee by about an hour.

I just spent from Boxing Day until 2nd Jan at Dunn's
Swamp. I live in
Bathurst and we go there quite often. As others have said it has everything you want. The new area is great for caravans and camper trailers. It was fairly busy while we were there. There are some new enviro friendly
toilets and the fees have gone from $3 per night per person to $5. Excellent value as they also supply firewood for the fireplaces. We had plenty of
camp oven
cook ups during our stay.
The dirt road section was also in excellent condition. It can get a bit rough over time but you can get a 2wd in very easily any time.
One of my favourite spots in Australia.

I agree it is a nice spot, but it was a lot nicer before everyone discovered it.Twenty years ago you would have the place to yourself, now their are hundreds their of a weekend with the usual bogans, and loud music.
Windermere
Dam is also worth a look, big yellowbelly but a boat orcanoe helps.
Cheers Pete

Yep, some of these
places were nice and quiet years ago.....but people keep posting them on the internet and letting more people know about them !!!!
But.....no such thing as a secret spot these days ????

What about
Bridle Track - Turon/Macquarie river out from
Hill end/
Sofala,best benefit no Nat Parks,great spot,can
camp ,fish,swim,gold panning,
check water/river level first before leaving, drop
toilets last time i was there, does get busy in holidays, also Windamere
dam east side
Mudgee,
Burrendong dam west side
Mudgee, not to put a dampener on
Dunns Swamp but there are plenty of good spots to
camp around
Mudgee. There is another spot Syd side of
Mudgee on river but cant think of it,used to be a nudist
camp,maybe someone might remember.
