Dad and his mate, Stan have just got back after 5 days of riding motorbikes through the Vic high Country - Dad on his new Suzuki VStrom 1000 and Stan on his Honda 1100 ex-police bike.

Not sure what Stan has done to his bike apart from taking the bells and whistles off but he's had it for about 5yrs I would say from memory and is thinking that this could possibly be his last ride thanks to hip replacement and heart attacks.
Dad has changed his front sprocket from the standard 17 to a 16 which made the gearing much better he says - instead of wanting to go into top gear at 105 - 110kph, its going in slightly earlier closer to 100kph, hasn't put the speedo out too much, but apparently you can get a little yellow box fitted that fixes that up, and fuel consumption hasn't changed much either...does just under 5lt/100km. Both bikes have a uhf / cb set up too with Dads having issues on the way home, loose wire somewhere he thinks.

The trip took them from Nowra, down to Bega..used the Omo Hwy...went to Mt Hotham,Mt Beauty, Bright, Jingellic then back to Nowra. Mum has even taken a week off work in March as they are going to head to Bright for some festival they have - it was Dads fave place!

Stan uses a trailer behind his bike with all his camping gear and Dad has just recently sold his trailer and now packs all his up in the paneas and top box. They pack pretty light and stopped at pubs for dinner.....

Dads looking forward to more 'off road' stuff with his new toy as he's owned 5 bmw ex police bikes and has something slightly different now....

Trip km's were spot on 1600...

Just thought this could be useful for anyone who uses bikes out there.......maybe there should be more of it on here???

Laura,

Great yarn about the Old Fellas having fun in the high country.

Make sure your Dad talks Stan into going on more trips together.

Better to wear out than rust out!!!

Regards,
Bob.

Im sure they will do another one.........They have done so many trips together too with the swmbo's on behind....Stan has had both hips replaced and a few heart attacks lately and is struggling to get around a bit and he though he would never do the high country.

They have done Vic a few times, GOR, Tassie and a stack of not so far away ones, but never into QLD. They get itchy feet - its funny watching them!!

Annette has her licence and a bike too so her and Stan have always been planning a week here, a week there - a bike each! Its great!

One of Dads old mates lost his licence (speeding) which was pretty impressive for an 83yr old. He got his licence back and on his first ride he had a heart attack and died...died doing what he loved best....
