I had a guy drop in this morning looking at buying my old 2003 Patrol. During the course of inspection I moved the car up under the carport (still raining here, another 110mm last night) and lifted the bonnet. I had been clambering all over the guards and front showing and explaining how to 'fix' the ZD30 engine when he says, "Is that a snake?". Where!, was my startled response. I only started relaxing after seeing it nestled in above the headlight. Just a harmless python coming in from the wet.

Malcolm,
I just fixed one problem ZD30 I have no desire to do it again. Keep the car, but the Snake would enjoy the wifes numerous frogs.

Dont tell her that though.
Cheers Colin.

Colin

This is not my ZD30 that blew up. This is my old one. In 150,000 never had a problem with it. Told the prospect all about ZD30 grenades and how to 'fix' them. Agreed to put EGT and boost gauges with full Nissan service for $25K. I'll know in a week or so.

Pleased to report that my 2005 is now back on the road. Done about 150 kms on the new engine and going great.

Pythons are great. We have a couple that hang around our place & city visitors are soon made to realise that snakes are okay too.

We don't handle them unless they look like getting themselves into bother eg heading towards the slasher & that sort of thing. Otherwise they're just part of the landscape.

We've a red belly black too. They're kind of shy but we do spot it occassionally in the garden fishing for tadpoles inn our pond or maybe crossing the road.

No problems with carpet snakes. When we lived at Oak Valley about 20 years ago, one night we had one come up on the verandah and wrap himself up in the barbie. His head was hanging down looking through the glass door watching us watching TV. His head was the size of my fist. Took the kids (teenagers) outside and we spent a good 10 mins studying him/her/it.

This one in the car just poked his head up, spotted me about six feet away and went back down. On investigation I found three inches of his tail sticking out under the air cleaner in the 1" hole that goes into the mudguard double skin.

He'll find his own way out when the time is right. Just have to check the fan area before I start the engine.

Nice story mate.

Many years ago when friends visited from Sydney we drove about 200 metres for a picnic on the banks of our little creek. While playing baseball we spotted this rather large python heading our way. Yikes!

Well our party was 2 ladies, 2 young boys and Moi. We all headed over for a look and returned to our game or, in the case of the women, more wine and chatter. But 'Monty' just kept on coming our way.

After a while he was up and under my Hilux and in the springs. Then we heard what he must have known about all along, the boom, boom boom of thunder in the distance.

Because we were worried he might get hurt if we drove off, we all trotted home on foot leaving Monty under the car. Eventually the storm passed and we sent the kids scampering down to "check on Monty". Several checks later they gave the all clear and the Hilux was driven home.

I'll bet to this day those kids remember that day they look after Monty the python..
