Hi Neil
The v8 makes its torque lower in the rev band and therefore will be better at towing the heavy load. The reasons the 6 cylinder uses so much petrol is its max torque is made at 3400 rpm...when do you rev it like that with an auto? In first or second only. The new v8 is supposed to be more efficient on fuel than the Nissan 4.8 and im presuming its for thesame reason.
The t/d cruiser (or any other model) makes its max torque where you normally drive the 4b at.... roughly... 2000rpm that, aswell as a more efficient combustion gives them a way better economy figure.
Buy the v8 over the petrol 6 for towing. Both will do the job easily just the v8 will do it easier.

Hello
I have a V8 cruiser and am amazed at how good the fuel usage is. I was intending to go for the turbo diesal but the $10 000 price difference and extra
services put me off. I have been amazed at how good the economy of the v8 is over a friends 6 cyl petrol. I tow 1 or 2 horses in a float (which means we are talking really gentle economic driving for the horses rather than fuel economies sake) ) Last time I checked figures got 20.2 / 100k !!! and this was through
sydney. Without the float seems to vary between low 13's and high 17's. Though this once again is taking it easy. If you started flogging it I think you would see these figures increase dramaticly
regards
