Have you installed the little wire retaining/locking clip which stops the ball popping out?
If so then check the socket isn't out of shape.

Hi Unko,
The old one ( and the new) should have writing on the tube end and some numbers such as 300N or something. My caravan (pop-top) ones have 600N on them. This is 600 neuton meters. Apparently as a rough conversion this is approx. 60kgs.

As Ozhumvee said, make sure the wire clips are in properly also

Cheers

Can you open and close the tail gate still.Even if they are to strong struts, they still shouldnt pop out.Ill bet the clips are missing or not installed correctly.

As others have said, first check you have the circlip in place.

Another problem may be that the new strut has a shorter "stroke" than the old one and there is too much force being applied to it, causing the ball to pop out regardless of the retaining circlip.

My bet though is a missing retaining clip.
