is there a need for hire caravans in
Adelaide
was thinking of a business venture (for tax minimization) using, to begin with, a 2nd hand unit of reasonably late model in the 17-19ft range
cant find anyone in town that does it for road use (they will do static hire) so cant judge or gauge usage rates....what about the guy in
Mildura or the co's in Vic or NSW Qld ...anyone know the usage rates in those
places?

Hi No1,
When we did the Camper Hire, biggest request we got was for the Jayco style, with the wind-up top and extendible ends. Had requests all the time for them, as they can sleep 6 with 2 small kids on the fold down table. Can't tell what it would be like now with the economy in the state its in, but IMHO probably even more interest with people wanting to do shorter holidays.

that was noted from
Mildura site .....
but could you get more for a hard top van for a couple only?....or with bunks in an fully enclosed awning perhaps for the kids

My experience would be the Popup style would get more money and be a greater hire requested item than the hard top with annex and kids etc, and would actually IMHO get a better price than the hard top.
People that hire seem to basically want an easy to tow easy to setup system, I think our annex was only used on a few occassions when hired. A windout awning would get used every night if fitted versus normal awning even that would probably get used only for 3 or more day stops.
If I was thinking of going back into hiring it would diffinately without doupt be the popper style.
Cheers mate

All of our campers were hired out every School Holidays, and long weekends and we usually got a minimum of 1 or 2 3 week holidays each year and usually 1 a year for over 5 weeks. These were for offroaders though with extended trips like GRR or Savanah Way.
Also last 2 years we did them we had
Birdsville Races hires. I can send you a rates sheet we used, of course it would have been dearer for lift top van style.
Cheers Mate

Oops forgot to add,
Customers were from mainly riverland but we had customers from Barossa,
Adelaide,
Clare and even
Mildura. Even one from
Bendigo that was holidaying on Eyre Peninsula.

I have no idea about the need in
Adelaide, but perhaps with the economic down turn, it would give an option for those who can no longer go out and purchase. Those wanting to hire for a short period (longer period may not be viable for hiring) would probably have
young families, so it would need to be fitted out for kiddies.
I'm sure you have looked into the cost of insurances.
Of course people who hire don't look after things as
well as they do their own, so allow plenty in the maintenance budget. I have seen what tenants can do to houses, and how hire vehicles are treated in the
Kimberley - put the two together and i shudder to think of the results.

insurance costs were quiet reasonable which is why I am asking more questions to gain a better understanding to judge if its worthwhile
as for rental houses "been there done that"

You would want a sizable bond say $1000.00 or you can put this on their credit card and refund on refund discounting any damage.
