No Simpson for us.

Evening all,
We had planned to do a East ,West crossing of the Simpson(around 7 days from Birdsville to Alice via Old Andado) as part of a 4 month trip leaving Birdsville 19/4, But mother nature seems to have other ideas. Not happy.
My question is I am looking for an alternative for 7 days basically between Birdsville and Alice? What is the likely hood of being able to travel North from Birdsville? To get to Birdsville we will hopefully be coming from Innamincka via Walkers Crossing after spend a week around Innamincka.(We have already been thru Flinders)

Thanks,
Graeme

Graeme

Chances of going north from Birdsville are not good. Still there is more than a month to go but there may still be vast stretches of poinded water around. Your best bet will be Innamincka to Birdsville Track, then Maree, Oodnadatta, Finke, Alice. It doesn't seem that Walkers Crossing will close this year but you can never tell

Cheers

You don't necessarily have to give the Simpson up totally Graeme.
2 days to drive down the Birdsville track & up to Oodnadatta & Dalhousie. 3 days across the Rig Rd to Poepells Cnr & back around on the French Line to Mt Dare, then 2 days up to Alice via Old Andado. Would be more comfortable with 8 or 9 days but 3/4 of a double crossing would be a great alternative.
