In four weeks I'm off for this years desert trip.
Unfortunately, as has been the case in previous years the weather gods are not smiling on me.
More rain in the channel country Eyre creek flooded, so East-West across the Simpson is not looking good.
I was planning on taking my time to cross so I have a week to get to the Alice and the start of the trip. Note, the Plenty may also still be a problem.

Options please.

No matter how much planning you do there's one thing about the weather - it's generally unpredictible when your in vulnerable areas.

Kiwi.

Yes the further North you go the wetter it becomes.
Have contacted friends in B/ville, and contacted the rangers.
Just making early plans if all goes pair shaped.
Last (and maybe only) option is via SA.

Well yeah a trip through SA would be the only other way. I didnt mention it because every time I think of the SA part of our trip a couple of yrs ago i cringe because of the weather!! Lol...ah well.

How long are you going for??? Where are you aiming to get to??? I love hearing about peoples travel plans!

Kiwi.

Was hoping to do the Southern part of the Simpson E-W then the second part of the trip is the Northern Simpson W-E coming out on the Hay river.
Nearly Four weeks in total.

Evening Wim,
we are in the same boat only we are coming from Sydney(leaving at Easter) we are now planning to do Innamincka and Coongie then head south around the bottom of Lake Eyre then enter Simpson from Dalhousie and spend a few nights doing a loop. Cant wait. We did look at going North from Birdsville but seem not as much too see as in Simpson. Best of luck I may well see you out there.
Cheers
Graeme
