For twenty five years of my working I was an Ambo.
I wouldn't be to worried about the car catching fire to motivate you to have a bag packed.
In my experience it is the collisions that unfortunately render you or other occupants injured and the panic of the moment.
Most people have all there personal items ie. wallets, medications, note books, personal papers, money etc floating freely about the car.
In the event of a collision they end up floating all over the road, in the gutter, in the bush. Many times the valuable items disappear into the pockets of the cretins who 'stop to help'
In situations where through injury or illness and you cannot communicate you still need to be identified.
Nine times out of ten women are ok. because they usually have a handbag and it is all there ID license etc.
If a guy collapses in the street he will have a wallet in his pocket. But in a car mostly it is not in his pocket and he may go by ambulance with a
john doe name until the
police find otherwise.
I always carry a 'manbag' zipped up with all those personal and hang it over the headrest. If you need to be carted off it will go with you.
I've lost count of times these scenarios have occurred.
Another thing, many caravaners who are away from
home for extended periods have those concertina paper and cardboard filing things with a latch to keep it closed.
If you use one put it in a metal box of some sort.
When a caravan has a crash it disintegrates.
I have spent hours on the northern pacific highway assisting to pick up the remains of files strewn over hundreds of metres on wet and windy days.
This is happening some where today.

On the back of my Drivers licence I have a piece of paper stuck on with Scotch Magic Tape that has all the info they ask at Hospital admission -
- Medicare Number
- Private Health Insurance Num,ber
- Allergies
- Medication
- Medical events
- GP's Name and phone Number
- Cardiologists Name and Phone Number.
- Next of Kin details
If I'm unconscious, the info is still instantly available.
Yes, it all fits on the bottom half of a NSW Drivers Licence.
When I go jogging I don't carry my wallet with me - but in one pocket is a previous Drivers Licence with this info on it.
