On Patrol & TONI
Er Indoors, dog and I are travelling in Vic early next week and need to know if the route I have chosen will present any problems re recent disaster & possible road closures and keeping in mind the sensitivity of tourists driving through devastated community's. But also helping the tourist industry by getting back to normal as soon as possible, and therefore bringing money back into an area.
I will be at the Best Friend resort near Yallam and heading NE through Tarra Bulga NP to Morwell then up through Baw Baw NP, Yarra Valley NP to
Woods Point, then double back a little via
Warburton Woods Point Rd to
Warburton.
Before any get of their bikes re a dog in a NP she will remain in the car in any parks, and we are just driving through the parks, that's perfectly legal.
Cheers Colin

Don't know about other NPs but up here at
South West Rocks it's a $350 fine for dog in car in NPs picnic grounds, My sons mate got pinched last week and that's what it cost him.

Use googlemaps or similar in conjunction with the vicroads site to work out where the closers are, Rhys.

It might pay to
check that you can take a dog into a national park even if it stays in the car - I am pretty sure you cannot (at least in Vic).
I seem to recall seeing signs (or something on a website) stating that four legged creatures are NOT welcome, inside a car or otherwise.
I know for a fact that years ago friends had to leave their dog in their car just outside
the entrance to Mt Buffalo while they all piled into our vehicle for the trip up the mountain.

The Vic NP Dog travel in NP link is:
http://www.parkweb.vic.gov.au/1process_details.cfm?note=23
It says generally you cannot take dogs into NPs and lists reasons. You can transit NPs on bitumen roads only. It then lists some exception NPs that you can take you dog to all or a specific part.

Ho Colin
The road closures to
Woods Point from
Warburton were removed on Friday afternoon.
However when yoe arrive at Cumberland
Junction you cannot go to Marysville unless you are a resident and can prove it.
