My dad had a Navara D22 (3L TD) 2004 mod with 140,000 km.
It is serviced every 5000km (professionally) as per service book and he tows a 2.2 ton van.
The oil color when dropped from the sump is clean, not black as you would expect - as if it has only just been changed.
The mechanic does not know why. Has anybody else had this happen on their vehicle?
Could this indicate a potential problem?? EG oil not picking up the rubbish?
or is this just good news?
Thanks
Marco

Marco,
having had the same unit for a couple of years and subjecting it to the worst that the Australian outback could thow at it (whilst towing a fully laden
Tambo camper), I'd say relax and rejoice. 5K is probably why. Leave a change to 10K and you might see a difference in oil colour. I looked at the bypass oil filter system but my mechanic (Aaron at Atoc Autos, a renowned 4x4 and Nissan expert) advised that it was totally unnesessary with todays regular service regime. If you were expecting to exceed the recommended km between
services then that was a different matter. The 3L T/D in the D22 is a good unit, as is the vehicle.
Cheers Mick

But me Pajero black as after 5K and only 210 K's.

I'm thinking that that would be because the first 2 are petrol engines....and the Paj is diesel (maybe!!) but it ain't clear from what you say.
My 2.8tdi Patrol and D40 Navara (YD25 engine) are both black after a few minutes running following oil change. Change oil every 5K.

Marco,
the oil in the cooler should be the same colour as the oil in rhe engine, if not something is wrong.
Have a good one

Marco,
I used to use 15/40 and the oil went black soon after, with in 500kms , then i changed to 10/40 and did the service 2500km ago and still reasonably clear, i too change oil and filter every 5k, no matter what, unless in the middle of nowhere.
cheers,
Lance
