Where to put uhf in a Mazda Bravo

Had a look last night as to where I might mount a GME TX3220 in a mazda bravo, there didn't seem to be a plainly obvious spot.

Where have other people mounted theirs?

Thanks,

OK, I have different radio and drive a Prado, but I guess you could use the same principal, and that is: Took the face plate (don't know if yours has one) off the radio and mounted it on the centre console behind the gear stick. Mounted the radio under the dash (drivers side) flat against the side where the centre console meets under the dash. Most vehicles have a bracket there that holds the dash up. Bit of a pain to get in there initially, but works well once installed.

It has been a bit of a saga installing any extras into the Prado. I had to install the HF radio under the drivers seat, because there was simply no where else to put it.

Hope this helps.

Hi Fred
May I suggest you relocate your HF radio..If you happen to get stuck in a deep creek, and a door has got to be opened- your radio will be cactus. I have seen this happen.
Why not mount the ' box' up high on your cargo barrier !! and the remote unit on the dash !!
Cheers

Unfortunately we don't have a cargo barrier as we use the "full bed" óutback drawers'. The bed area between the draws and the front seats can be removed and the rear passenger seats folded back down (used often). dash mounting is very difficult due to airbags and electronics. Also there is just nowhere to mount a roof console. So, we just have to live with the compromises we have taken.

If I need to get out of the vehicle while in water, then it will be out the window.... (: lol..!

Hi Madcowz

I did something different. I also wanted to put a 12v cooler warmer in my ute so I could keep cold drinks cold or food warm as needed.... so i bought a cooler warmer from Dick Smith for about $30 which holds about 8 cans. I then mounted the uhf on the end of the cooler with the display facing up. I ran the antenna wiring from the roll bar behind the cab (antenna mounted on roll bar) and under the carpet and it comes out just between the front seats. The uhf and cooler power supplies were then joined and run to a 12v cigarette lighter plug. The cooler sits neatly between the front seats. The beauty of this is that by spending the money for a second antenna I have 2 cars with antenna fitted and can move the uhf and cooler from car to car by simply unplugging the antenna and power cord which plugs into the lighter outlet on the dash. It works well, can be easily moved to second vehicle, and no messing with dash. Also the uhf can be operated from the back seat if the kids or passengers wish.

regards Kc

Hi
If you are in a real dilemma, sell the unit and get a TX3440, this is what I had to do with my Prado. I have the main unit up under the dash, with all controls for volume, changing channels etc all on the microphone, mounted on the side of the console - just a thought.

Cheers

I have a bravo and use a gme tx3400. I have mounted the remote head on the centre consul behind the gear stick. This still allows me to use arm rest compartment. The main unit is mounted under the dash.I had a tx3220 equivalent and could not find a place for it, so bourght the tx 3400. Maybe you could trade your radio in for a remote head type which will fit much easier.
