Hey all....just about blind from searching the 'net to no avail.

I have a Kaymar telescopic camp light on the back of my 80 series, I want to replace the existing light with a rectangular LED variety of around the same size of a bit larger. It needs to be water/dust proof and a little robust for obvious reasons.

Thus far there is nothing I have found (but that does not surprise me).

Anyone have a suggestion or supplier I could try ?

Thanks

Andy

Hi Andy,

Umm, a location might help?

In WA, Blackwoods sell the LED work lights you're after as does Alanco and probably Coventries.

As indicated, for a named brand ie Hella or Narva you will pay.

Cheers,
Wayne.

Thanks guys, I am in Sydney. I have seen the Narva light but (unless I have it wrong) it is round. I had not seen the Hella but will take a look.

I am guessing there is a "unknown" brand out there that will do what I am asking, just have to find it...!!

Have a look at the range from BriteLEDhere.
I've just bought the BL-191W - it's not rectangular, but meets all of your other requirements. RRP $95 or buy from their store on eBay.

Roachie, I loved the look of those Off Road lights until I saw the prices. The $960 one looked good, but not on my credit card. LOL

Jeez you're hard to please John...... They've knocked $60- bucks off for you already..... hahahahahaha

I happen to know a good bank manager (or is that an oxymoron???? hahaha) who could sort out a mortgage over your next grand child which would enable you to set up one or 2 of those puppies on your bullbar..... Just think how much more carefully you'd drive everywhere!!!!!!

Roachie, I have had to change my opinions of what had been good bank managers in the past. They have changed em for me, I should say. When they don't do their homework and you are borrowing with more than a couple of zeros, principles change.

The super fund has made me think a bit of what we spend I guess too. Hope the GFC doesn't last too long.

Roachie, I am not sure who will be forgiven. LOL Our bank - as distinct to the one the company deals with, of many years standing seems to turn over relationship mangers so quickly, they miss out on work. They miss out on family work now.

Gidday Andy,
just a thought. I also had a Kaymar telescopic work light set up on the back of the Cruiser. The spotlight recently fell off and was basically a pain due to water/dust etc. How about setting up an elec receiver and then just plugging in a worklight when you need it. You can keep the plug clean with a Glad bag and rubber band while in transit. The light will be clean and in good shape cause it's in the car... You can then plug in a few varieties of light - you already have good wiring.
Cheers

I have no association with Glad - hohohoho

BT, I am wondering if I put two or three reversing lights on a panel to replace the Kaymar crap light I have too. They would probably work well in the mounts that are available and are sealed against dust and water intrusion. with the acrylic backing. The LEDs would be a lot less power hungry than the halogen 55watt globe.

Gidday John,
yes, I reckon that would be a good solution as well as give you better light for less power. Our light came loose and fell off after several trips up to Cape Leveque with the KK. I found that it was rarely used anyway. I was looking at better alternatives but our recent accident has put that on the back burner.

I thought about leaving it off and mounting it when I either went away or arrived...I have however gotten use to it helping me out as a reversing light as well ;-) . Most of the problem is the crappy light supplied, the plastic base and such is just not conducive to hanging together, that said mine has 50K of pretty ordinary travel behind it now.

I found some great looking (style and specs) lights in the US but they will all run well over $200A landed, more than I want to invest at the moment.....and yes I could visit the bank and take a mortgage on future sperm production or something....but I just don't like the banks enough......!!

I have been considering to adding a power outlet to the Kaymar pole in addition to the mounted light, just a little more handy for a cabled light at night.

Thanks again for all the info.

Andy
