g'day qubert,
my own personal opinion to mobile b/band is that i tried it both with telstra & optus {same Co as virgin} neither worked,as it would only stay connected for a cpl of mins & then drop out so you have to "redial" to connect,it only works from an mobile tower,so unless they have thousands of towers 2klms apart from each other then i don't believe it will work, unless you live in a major city center !!!
broadband in oz is a joke compered to europe or the states i believe, & twice the rip-off price here.
sorry,but i think a sat-phone would be the answer.

You are joking....Broadband in Europe/UK at leas,t is more expensive and nowhere near the coverage of Australia and it is as slow as...Australia has had mobile broadband for a lot longer than any of those areas. Don't know about the USA though. I was living in UK from end 2006 to 2008 and they were only 'trialling' mobile broadband then.

And, on the point of Virgin, yes they use the Optus network...(not the same company) and I have a mobile card for when I am touring in the caravan and it works fine all the way up the East Coast from
Sydney to
Gold Coast but I know it won't be much use up further or outback but even Next G struggles in those areas.
I have a Next G iPhone and recently, in
Bonny Hills...(south of Pt McQuarrie) I had full Virgin MBB coverage but could not connect on Next G....go figure, but makes a lie of the statement that you can only connect in major cities.

g'day,
just stating my opinion thats all,you asked if any was better coverage,i simply stated that it didn't work for me in my area,i also worked in a small town north of
emerald for a 4 week period & same problem no conection !!as for working in major cities ?? was just a "figure of speech" sorry it offended you, glade to hear that it all works
well for you !!
not sure why a person post's a question on a
forum, then gets bleep off because they dont like the reply, beit right or wrong ??
still no harm done,& i do hope that you find the right answer as i would like to think that i would gain on that answer for later in the future.
regards

Hi qubert
We travelled with Telstra mobile Next G broadband. It was available where Next G phone reception is available. Nothing else has the coverage - which is still poor.
Check out the Telstra coverage map. I was able to keep in touch with family, friends and forums when we stopped at towns with Next G reception.

With the new 21 Turbo modem, if you have 3 bars or more signal strength, adding the external antenna will actually slow things down due to signal cancellation.
