The
Peterborough Art Prize Exhibition opens tonight in the Town Hall, Main Street,
Peterborough and is on for 10 days including all of
Easter Weekend. 9am to 5pm
So if you are passing by, drop in and say G'day, and have a look at all the artwork. I won't be far away so just ask at the counter if you want to make contact.
Cheers

When we ask at the counter do we ask for Exhibitor Willem, or Exhibit Willem :-)

But trying to push a Brand Name here on this
forum is not the done thing, whether you do a disclaimer or not.

Ah... a luminary has arrived with a brain the size of a pea.
FYI It is a Community Event run and staffed by volunteers who put a lot of time and effort in to it so that the community as a whole may benefit from it. Any income derived goes towards the next Art Prize. This is part of Exploring Oz.

We all recognise by now (
well, at least I do) that if you want to in the slightest way comment on any single thing that Willem states ---- you gonna wear it.
So here we have, a blatant ad. for an art exhibition in his
home town.
I wonder just how many pictures painted by his wife are for sale there? (all donated?)
Willem, when you mention brain the size of a pea, perhaps you should recognise that its mass is invariably in inverse proportion to its incumbent host.
Yours without much respect... furph

No, this has nothing to do with Brand naming. And I am afraid, that if you think it is, then I will have to class you with the likes of that other fella who made the comment.
Furph
You are what you are.
My wife has 10 paintings on display. I have 1. There are 473 paintings and photographs in the exhibition. We do art for pleasure and to give pleasure.
Yes, it is a promotion for an event in my hometown. And travelling Australia is what this site is all about. So if you are passing by you may drop in and see what it is all about. We even give away free cups of tea and bikkies. We do not discriminate against grumpy old blokes like you.
I don't care about you, and, I do not need your respect.

Good reply to Furph there Willem, I like the way you give a stern reply without being straight out rude.
As you state, it is a community display, not the Willem and Judith art display.
Hope it is a good success.

Steve 21 and Furph..your replies are quite dumb!! How many people would be able to get to
Peterborough SA for the Art Show after reading Willems post... not many !! Good to see community minded people are still alive and
well, thinking about the community in which they live. Sorry we cant all get there today Willem.. Michael

Willem, we would love to see some pics of the winning entries, or at least, any interesting ones. Obviously impossible for us all to visit, but would love to see the local talent. Sounds like a good old country community event. Sounds like the old days with the CWA, do they still exist?

Hi Fred
The CWA closed its doors a couple of years ago....I think all the ladiesl got too old :-)
But we have 2 service clubs and a host of other associations.
There were no less than 5 events happening in this town of 2500 people tonight.
The opening was a success and the happy visitors polished off copious amounts of free wine and soft drinks. The High School did the catering. We have art entries as far as Maleny in Queensland this year. First prize of $1000 went to an artist from Riverton which is about 140km south of here.
Cheers

I'm sure it will be a very successful exhibition again Willem. We certainly thoroughly enjoyed it three years ago.
I recommend anyone passing call in. The
Peterborough Hall is something really special to see too.

"The

I love those old time country halls, been to many shows in them, have played a lot of sport in them as
well. There is a certain feel about them. Last year on our way back from
Birdsville we stopped in
Hawker and found a Quilt & Craft show on there, we were running a bit late after finding that LOL
I'm sure it will be a huge success Willem, I too would love to see some of the paintings.
Cheers

We are about 100 paintings down on last year but the quality of the exhibits has increased. Maybe this recession was a good thing as it has curbed some of the excesses of the past. Still the artists come from all over the country SA region and interstate
The Town Hall is
heritage listed and so we are not able to hang on the walls, and so, in 2003 and with the help of other individuals and the Rotary Club, I built 25 3mx2m free standing frames. Judith stitched and fitted all of the hessian which covers the frames. With the help of the '
young fellas' at Rotary and a truck we move the frames into place from their storage at the Art Centre. The frames all have carpet on the feet so that they are able to be slid over the polished town hall floor.
We are hoping to have 1500 visitors through the doors over the next 1o days. Entry is by voluntary gold coin donation.
Cheers

We had the pleasure of meeting Willem & Judith at the Art Show 2 years ago enroute to the
Kimberley. Willem gave a personal tour of the wonderful stuff on display in the restored hall. An excellent
display put on by community minded people to promote art & photography...
well done Willem & Judith, look forward to catching up again one day..cheers.....oldbaz.

Hi Willem, it sounds like you and your wife do a lot of community work in
Peterborough, your wife of course being a councillor says it all really. Well done with your volunteer work that you do, Bevan and I love the country towns, they have such a different feel to them. Bushies at heart we are. We nearly went through there on our last trip over through SA, if we ever go that way we will drop in for that cuppa that we had a rain check on last year.
Cheers
Deanna

G'day Al
You step on my toe and I will stomp on yours....on the internet anyway....my motto.......hahahahaha
Unfortunately the masses do not understand the finer points of their spoken language and look at life from a very narrow perspective.
May posters on this
forum are not people of action but rather that of reaction.
But it does not worry me these days. I have gotten over the early days. Peope try to shoot me down and I will fire back. Its all a game. Where to draw the line is for the Moderators.
Cheers

Hey Steve21.
In this instance you are 100% wrong.
This is not a person trying to blatantly advertise a product for hire sale or reward, this is a man telling people on this site of a community event that will help his community this is not for personal gain.
I read the post Willem made the other day that you refer to, I had a bit of a laugh and took it for what is was worth, having known Willem I see the funny side of his comments, if you new him You would too.
I recon you should be man enough to just suck it up and admit your wrong, then once you have done that try an apology.
Cheers Steve.
