Hi all,

planning a trip in may/June, LC100 TD towing dirt road van from Birdsville/betoota/Monkira/Davenport Downs/Diamantina Lakes NP/Old Cork/Lark Quarry to Winton.

Does anyone know if there is any diesel available anywhere on the way. I have a range of about 600k plus margin for safety from standard tanks and will have another 60 litres in jerry cans (300k)...I estimate the total distance to be about 900k including touring around Diamantina lakes (100k)

That doesn't give me much room for error, If there is no fuel available I might have to change route.

Anyone got any suggestions

Thanks

Greg

Windorah has fuel bit of a detour but a nice spot in it's own right.

Don't think so unless there is fuel available in the NP of late.

Suggest you take a few more jerries.

Do you really need to go via Betoota ? Top up at Bedourie or even Boulia. I don't think you will use much fuel running around in the park - not many places to go.

sunland greg.

No fuel on that proposed route.

The scenic drive at Diamantina is worth a look.
Some sections may be in very poor shape and slow going.

Thanks Guys,

I didn't think there would be, I think we will go up to Boulia, then into the park via Springvale and then out the other side to Old Cork and Winton.

Might not be as scenic but I would hate to be stuck out there but there should be a lot of travellers out that way this winter

We go to Diamantina Lakes a fair bit - now with long range tanks it is a bit easier. Here are your options: No fuel at Betoota, Monkira or Davenport Downs.
Suggestion 1:Birdsville to Bedourie (top up fuel maybe) then back out to No. 3 bore (on Windorah road), up through Coorabulka and Springvale into Gum Holes and Hunters Gorge at Diamantina Lakes. Now, regardless of what other people say you can spend a fair amount of time at Diamantina Lakes - we like the fishing and exploring. There is also a 100 klms round trip to Lake Constance - from Hunters Gorge.
Suggestion 2:Diamantina Lakes to Boulia - 182 klms.
Suggestion 3:Diamantina Lakes to Old Cork - 173 klms.
Don't what ever you do just go in there for one night. Stay a few days and explore - there's even a dunny with the best view.
