I am planning a trip across the Simpson (via Ooodnadatta, Yularu and the Alice) and due to a tight schedule, I need to know the quickest way from
Birdsville back to Wagga Wagga (
home).
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
DaveA

Thanks for the
feedback.
How long do you think this would take approximately - in hours, so I can then decide how many hours per day to drive.

Birdsville Track (
Birdsville to
Marree) is about 600km and
Marree to Wagga is about 1500kms
No good asking me how long it would take - I have a bit of a reputation for covering large distances in a day :-)))
Also depends if you are just going to 'put yur head down' and drive, no sight seeing on the way
Birdsville track is dependent upon the track conditions at the time - if it is dry and recently graded you will make good time. If it is wet and boggy it can take days to traverse
Marree to Wagga is all tar seal so no issues there

Clayton Creek just out of
Marree has a thermal spa which is a great way to finish off a days driving - has a
toilet block and you can
camp there.
Sunset in the spa with a cold beer - ahhhhhh - life isnt too bad :-)

Looks a bit like this - but happier than I look in the picture (sour looking bugger) - I actually had stubbed my toe just prior to taking the picture. I was on my own so I set the camera up on tripod and timer and was running back to jump in the sap and I stubbed my toe - hurt like the blazes - thus the sour look on my dial :-)

Yes, noticed that after you came off the Canning and camped near Bililuna, you sure covered some distance the next day.

From memory I went from Billiluna to Wagga in 3 days - Unfortunately I just can't seem to be able to curb my desire to 'see what's around the next bend of over the next hill" :-))))
Its a great place this Australia

Dave
Have a look at heading out through
Windorah,
Toompine,
Quilpie,
Cunnamulla.
I reckon its quicker and you avoid SA.
Betoota to
Canberra is a one day drive (18 hours) so B'ville/Wagga would be about the same.
The other route is
Birdsville to
Tibooburra, and is actually the shortest.

I think I'll use the
Windorah /
Cunnamulla as
Plan B. Plan C will be via the
Birdsville track, down to
Renmark and then across to Wagga.
My preference (Plan A) would be to go via Camerons Corner,
Tibooburra etc. Can any one give me a rough idea on travel times from
Birdsville to
Cameron Corner? And then Camerons Corner to
Tibooburra. I assume it depends on road conditions but I will be checking this once in
Birdsville so at this stage for planning purposes, I'm interested in best case scenario via this route.
Any
feedback will be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave
