Hi, has anyone been into this Nat. Pk. recently. We are going in from Taroom end, via Glenhaughton Rd. to Starkvale Creek campground. We are travelling in a diesel Grand Vitara. It doesn't have a lot of ground clearance and would like some feedback about the track conditions. On the Qld. Nat. Pks. website it says 4WD but not what standard.
Cheers.

Morning Rex and while it is a couple of years since we were in there l doubt that the road (rather than track) will have changed much. I contacted the ranger at Taroom and was advised that when they went there they always had to use four wheel drive. We drove in all the way in two wheel drive and wondering when the road was going to deteriorate. Eventually arrived at the camp ground you are going to find a HQ Holden parked there that had towed in a 6x4 box trailer with all their camping gear. Just take your time and it is a nice spot.

Thanks for the info Ray. It's hard to guess what road conditions are like. Everyone has a different idea on what's rough 4x4 conditions.
We were camped in Kakadu back in '88 at Mardigul and were told by a bloke in a new ( at the time) GU patrol not to try and go into Jim Jim falls as the road was too rough for his truck. We went anyway and the road was reasonable gravel with corrugations. We went through the ck and arrived there without any problems.
cheers

We were there over Easter. Roads were were wet and slippery, very slippery.

If the road is dry then a convential can drive easily into the campsite. Not 4WD but don't go if wet.

Were there many campers there over Easter?
Also, did you do any of the walks into the gorge ect.?
Cheers

There were a couple of parties camped there early in the weekend but they left on advice of the ranger.

We went at the end of the weekend and saw some other daytrippers but muddy roads stopped us going past Starkvale creek very far.

We went out to the "Cattle Dip" which is worth seeing. Mud prevented us going to the gorge lookout or to the northern camp.

Interesting place but only in the dry. The campsites were freshly mown and there was even some firewood around (guess from ranger)

Costs $4.80 per person per night.

We actually ended up camping back at Lake Murphy. Must go back again sometime when it is dry.
