engine protection

Evening All. Re: previous post on stone guard. I was looking for a plate that goes under the engine to protect against rocks etc.

I'd imagine you are referring to a "bash Plate" or "Underguard". Most accessory manufacturers produce a bash plate or similar. It's more a sump protector than anything else. I've recently installed one on the GU that was made by Brown Davis. It also offers protection to the front suspension and in particular the steering dampner on live axle vehicles.

tell me why you would go to the trouble to fit a sump guard on a patrol . i have never seen anything get close to the sump or thereabouts .i imagine one would have to do something very stupid to get damage so high up .not trying to be offensive but!!

He owns an Xtrail, but I have seen a 3 litre Patrol with a holed sump north of Nullagine in WA about 2 years ago. He'd driven over the pile of grader dirt on roadworks. He'd just heard the thud and all the oil was pouring out.
