It's a pub yard. If you like noise, go there.

Provided the weather is good you can stay at Long Waterhole. It's 4km south of Winton & there's plenty of room, but there's no facilities. This place would be much quieter than the back yard of the pub.

You can get directions in town.

There's no yabbies in the waterhole, well there wasn't when we stayed.

I'd recommend the cabins. Much nicer than camping down on the creek (brrr!!!) and quite affordable. Do eat at the pub tho...excellent grub when we were there 2 years ago.

There's a camp ground in town near where the road trains drop their trailers. They come and go any old time of the day. That was in 2000 but things could've changed since then.

Suits me down to the ground because I love the sound of big diesel engines, but that may not be everybody's cup of tea.

The cp was fine in 2007. The nightly meal they put on and bush poet there was probably the best we have experienced. The park at the back of the hotel was very popular and eveyone using it seemed happy with it.

Hallmark 1, we stayed at the caravan park at the main crossroad as you come into Winton from Longreach, late last year. Found it to be basic but adequate and the staff were friendly enough. Amenities are very basic and got dirty very quickly (park was very busy) but they did the trick.Winton was a top spot. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to wander through the Waltzing Matilda Centre.Lark Quarry? Each to their own but it did not punch our buttons and a lot of others that were there when we were, felt the same. If you don't mind good dirt roads and remote camping, Welford National Park on the Quilpie to Jundah Rd (and thento Winton) is a stand out. Some great camping spots right on the Barcoo River, particularly on the western side of the park.

Both the cp's have some noise. The one at the back of the hotel as mentioned above is ok but very basic.
The one across the road from the road train depot has large trucks parked up with refrigeration unit engines idling away all night cattle trucks with a little odour, there is also the occasional train rumbling by. Manager seemed to be only doing enough work to get by with but the park is ok.

Check out the open air truck museum just over the railway line. Donation in box for viewing.

Hi I Have stayed behind the pub OK, great meals, if that is what you like good history, some facilities for travellers ,basic shower toilets.
My favourite Bush camp if that is what you like is in Bladensburg Park, camp sights handy but if you have a 4x4 carry onto the end of the track to Srcammy's Lookout, sit up there on the edge and see the Winton lights on the horizon at night, sun rise is fantastic.
Read and learn about the shearers strike, find out what that song that you Aus like to sing at International Sports Events is about .have a look at the Strike camp site on the way and try to imagine what those shearers went through back then
If you need a hat to stop the sun frizzling your ears off visit the two brothers in the Hat Fishing Shop on the main drag.
you might even mention about a Kiwi that bought a brush to tidy up the xxxx beaver hat after the Isa Rodeo.
Whether I need to or not I will call in and say gidday next time I pass
