Hi All, wondering if anyone has any specs on fuel consumption for V8 petrol Landcruiser Auto (towing 22ft van)? Tossing up between petrol vs diesel cruiser.

I met a guy at
Katherine Lower Level who had a new 200 petrol and a 22 or 23ft Jayco Sterling.
He told me his fuel consumption was 25-30L per 100Kms while towing.
He was not worried as he said that it still would be a very long time before a diesel became cheaper due to the $10,000 difference in price.

But if he had the diesel he would have been able to get 10 grand more at trade in!!

Yes CJ, they hold their value
well because of it. The guy talking to Phil was thinking strictly short term. That is a lot more than a diesel LC for fuel useage.

I travelled with one once and his fuel consumption was much higher (50%) than the OKA on the same road and the same speed.
Apart from the fuel cost, you should also consider the reduction in range. You will need to fill more often and will not be able to 'skip' some of the more expensive spots, adding further to the cost.

Hi yu ct110
We have a petrol V8, but manual, we currently to an 18' Concept which when full comes in at 2.6 ton.
Recently (
well last year) did a 20000+ k trip to WA and we averaged 4.46kpl which i think works out to about 20 litres per 100ks.
I have been told that an automatics consumption should be better than a manual, having said above a beautiful machine, go purchase one.
Cheers
Baz

Hi, We have a 200 series diesel landcruiser and tow a 20ft Kedron caravan which, when fully loaded is about 3 1/2 ton. On our five month trip last year we regularly achieved 18 lts per 100 km. The worst was driving into a very strong head wind when we rated 22 per 100km.
Met up with a fellow
grey nomad who had a petrol cruiser and he was getting 32 ltrs per 100 km with a much lighter van than ours, and that was not with a head wind.
Hope this is some help,
Cheers
Julie

I did 17,000km around AUS last year with a 17' van...averaged 20litres/100....and just over $5,000 worth of petrol
I now have a 2.2 ton van (25') and Sydney/Mildura/
Sydney averaged 21 litres/100 (less on way back with tail wind)
I have NEVER had a problem about stopping, or skipping expensive servo's as most
places are the same out there on the highways....I always got the cheaper servo without any issues !
And I bought my V8 petrol for $20,000 less than the diesel as they were throwing them away just before the 200 came out, So I have another 3 trips around AUS before I am behind.
But, diesels are very economical.
