My laptop of 5 years has crashed, am looking at getting a new one, however it will have the windows vista (home) on it and not windows xp.
Have heard of problems with vista running oziexplorer.
Is anyone able to tell me if there is a problem and if so has the problem been solved?
My set up is laptop under seat, VGA 10inch touchscreen on dash using a Haicom gps mouse type unit sitting on the dash..Cheers and thanks - The nugget..

There is going to be another OS bought out that will supersede Vista and is due to be released 2-3rd qtr 2010. It basically builds on XP. Vista has been one of the biggest commercial flops Microsoft has bought out. Did you know that only an estimated 4.2% of business's world wide already running XP purchased Vista?

It's Windows 7 and it is the version of Windows that Micro$hit SHOULD have released instead of Vista.

According to reports it is much better than Vista and takes out much of the crap. I have 4 PC's all running XP Pro and have never taken the leap to Vista. Looking to buy a new PC soon but will definitely be waiting till Windows 7 is released later 2009.

You are completely correct on business not going Vista. We have 4,500 PC's at my corporation all on XP. We only move up when it is worth it. We rolled out with Win for Workgroups 3.11 then went to Win95 then to Win 2000 and recently to XP. Vista will be skipped altogether.

You already own your copy of XP and as the lappy has died and you won't be reselling it, load XP on the new one using your existing product key.

Hopefully he got it on a disc as most lappys have the OS in a partition on the HDD which is bloody hopeless if the machine dies.

You can however hook it up to another machine and copy it off.

True. First thing I do here at work with a new lappy is burn a set of install disks for future reference. Need them at EOL anyway to re-image for re-sale.

That said, there's lots of copies (legit) of XP available on various torrent sites.

No problem at all, all levels of Vista.

Vista compatibility was fixed ages ago...nothing to worry about.

If no XP downgrade is listed as an option just ask. I got my Dell with XP instead of the advertised Vista.

Nugget,

From the OziExplorer website:-

OziExplorer Version 3.95.4q and later versions are Vista compatible. If you are having any problems, check the Help Menu / About option in the software for the version you have installed.

Be running Vista since it came out. It was installed on the new Dell desktop I bought and have experienced just one software incompatability problem and that was with the Sony software running my now old fashioned video camera. Ozi did have a glitch but Des fixed that pretty quickly. Gotta say I've found Vista easier to use than I ever found XP to be (and I still use XP at work on the corporate network and my work laptop).

HP have just released the Mini 2140 which is a netbook. Not the fastest machine but great for travel and available with Vista (with optional downgrade to XP) for $1099.

My HP laptop of nearly 12 months has vista, and had no problems with it.
Set up ozy a few weeks ago, and then spent 2 weeks in the centre of oz, pounding the sh$t out of it on thousands of k's of corrugations.
All working well at the moment.
Loaded the 1-50 topo maps for SA tonight, hell you can almost see what colour undies are on the line !! LOL

Cheers Pesty
