Hi Guy,
I was up that way a few months ago. It is a great scenic place to visit.
West of the
visitor centre is all gravel. It was being graded when I was there in April.
You can
camp at
Dales Gorge Camping Area - there are different areas. It was $6 per night.
I also stayed at the Retreat. That was a bit more than $6.
I like
Joffre Gorge and
Weano Gorge.
There were no fees except the NP entry fee.
Here is link to download the Visitors Guide:
HERE
Here is a video I made of the
places I saw, but it goes for 9 minutes....
You will enjoy yourself, it is a great beautiful, unspoilt part of the country.
Cheers
Alan

G'day Guy
As previously stated by "Equinox", Karijini is a very special place to visit. Just remember where you are especially if you have children in your group, there is an underlying danger and quite a few people, sadly find out the hard way every year.
As we speak it is raining throughout the region, this may not affect your planned trip later this year, but once you are deep inside any of the gorges, you tend to loose focus on what is happening weather wise, after all these gorges are there mainly due to
water action.
Safe travels.

Hi Guy,
road conditions are pretty good. A lot is bitumen and when you hit the gravel its always
well graded. A 4WD is not necessary at all.
If you've get a few days you will see it all.
Fern pool and
circular pool were my favourite spots.
We stayed in the
camp grounds at Dales, near
Fortescue falls, and Savannah, near
Weano gorge. There is also an eco retreat at Savanah if you feel like spoiling yourself.
Dales is very basic, ammenities =pit
toilets
Savanah has BBQs, flush loos and showers. You'll need to get back to
camp early if you want the shower to be warm.
As mentioned by others, you'll need to pay a national
park entry fee which isnt much. We have an annual national parks pass so I cant remember what the fee was.
Remember that the
water in these gorges gets very little sunlight, hence its pretty cold even when the weather is warm.
To access
Weano gorge you'll need to wade through knee deep
water for a short while, be prepared to get wet. Its an awesome spot so dont let a bit of
water put you off.
Enjoy yourselves
Dan

I recommend taking the time for a day trip to Hamersly Gorge - a bit of a ways from the main
park, but has a couple of really nice spa-pools in the bottom of
the gorge.
Dales Gorge is probably the best family walk if you have younger kids.
The hike up Mt Bruce is good too. There are some decent lookouts along the way but the view from the top is the best way to see the landscape. Can also watch iron ore trains loading at the marandoo
mine (from a distance).
Got some photos from our most recent trip there (June 2008) at Flickr:

We stayed at the eco-resort. Nice but overpriced for what you get (particularly the kitchen...).
Have fun!

Was there for a few days last year. Its a fantastic spot.
Kalamina Gorge was an easy walk in a beautiful gorge. Went to all the lookouts but decided that the walks in the gorges around the lookouts were a bit beyond us. The gravel roads were pretty corrugated but the scenery was worth it.
Dales campground was good, the
toilets were clean and you practically had one for every two sites. There is no
water at Dales and from memory fires are not permitted there either.
Hamersley Gorge is a top spot, good for a swim, as is
Fern pool. The drive that goes right around past Wittenoom is also worth doing for the scenery. From that loop road there are a couple of tracks that can be followed down into the northern sections of the
park if you are not worried about lingering close to Wittenoom. We thought that the
visitor centre was rather a disappointment though.
Cheers
