hi all,
im planning on hiring a jayco outback in September to see what they are like before we buy one. this isn't my question.
my question is that i am looking for a
great camp site. north of
Sydney that will allow dogs.
does anyone have anything in mind.
max 4 hrs north of
Sydney. (picking up camper from
Sydney)
would prefer a non caravan park type of site(
bush camping). nat park??
any help would be great.
dirt and/or 4wding ok.

Greg
National Parks are a no-no with dogs.
Try one of the
farm type areas in the
Barrington Tops area.
We are going with some friends to Ferndale near Chichester
Dam one weekend in August - we are taking the caravan and they are tenting. A couple of our kids with Grandkids went there at Christmas and reckoned it was great. Three or four hours from
Sydney and plenty to do.
The details of Ferndale are all here
Ferndale
and here is the Google Maps reference
Epping to Ferndale from Epping to the
camp area.
You can adjust it to where ever you are getting the van.
I reckon if not Ferndale then one of the many other
farm camp areas or a Sate Forest
camp along the Allyn River would suit you fine.
Hope that helps
Max

2
places come to mind that i visit with my dog ---
Stockton beach - entry via anna bay end - dog must be on a lead at all times ( no mention that you have to be holding the dog)
and
barrington tops --- southern end go in from Dungog - go to
telegherry camping area - or the other 2 ( cant remember them right now frying pan ??)
at the end of the freeway you either turn right ( to
stockton) or straight to dungog

Hi Troll,
you should try and get your hands on a book called CAMPS 5 it will be a good investment now that you are buying a van it has all the free camps in OZ and will say if dogs are ok or not try NRMA $54.00 I think or
camp shops ,hey they might have it here in the E/O
shop ? it was a great investment for us :)

yeh i purchased this book - wa snot overly impressed with it - showed more truck stops and day rest areas - and not much in nice camping spots where you would be happy to travel 5 hours to
camp at - all was just road side stops ....
i tihnk i gave
mine away to the Outlaws- sorry was just my opinion

Hi Greg, I have mentioned it before, and no affiliation etc, but I just love Ferndale Park, just outside Dungog, near Chichester
Dam. Bush style camping on private property, very pretty place, showers,
toilets.
Camp fires are allowed. We were there again over the June long weekend.
Has a river running through it, unpowered sites $10 per person per night, not sure of cost of powered sites. Thoroughly recommend it, safe travels.

Greg
Places we liked and
places for dogs included Ferndale as mentioned. Gressford ( 1/2 north Maitland) and also Fennighams Island (Port Stephens). All these allow campfires too
Enjoy your trip

Hi Greg T
Another lovely place is Lake St. Claire (
Singleton Hunter Valley) there are showers,
toilets,and fees, but very reasonable.
My 5 cents.
Happy camping, and good luck. Robert
