We're starting to look for a camper trailer. Does anyone have any experience with
the desert edge units and if so what are they like and are they suitable for off road use?
We're intending to use it for a few weeks at a time for the next year or two and then start to do longer trips into the centre and up north when we retire in a couple of years time.
We don't want to do any rock crawling but do want to go on rough roads and into the high country.
We want someting that is quick and easy to set up and that is a stron durable unit so draw bar, suspesion, etc is important to me and a quick to set up kitchen is important for my better half

I looked at DE CT's at a field day recently and they look a good unit. Tents are just an Oztrail unit but there's nothing really wrong with those. Have a good look at CT's up close before you settle on a brand. I started looking at 10 - 12 brands in the DE price bracket and gradually worked it down to one. I looked at tent build, quality of canvas, simplicity of setup, simplicity of kitchen, trailer engineering and features - the
Tambo came a close first, just ahead of a Trackabout.
Price was not an issue, I just wanted a CT that would follow me anywhere and I would know that it would still be behind me when I got home. She-who-must-be-obeyed liked the kitchens of both, as
well as the flexibility of options with the tent build. Both were simple in their designs of trailer and tent, but still extra robust.

Thanks Frothy
I was wondering how the aluminium bodies performed. I know aluminium is used extensively in the trucking industry so guess it shouldn't be a problem in a camper but just wondered if anybody had any experience with aluminium bodies

I looked at one at Agfest last May - impressed with the Al workmanship, the marine
heritage of the camper shows up clearly.
Not sure how robust the nice shiny Al would be given a compartment full of heavy hard bits over a few km of corrugations though.
cheers
