Dottie,
my father is a long distance truck driver who carries oversize loads. He is using a Garmin Nuvi265WT that he swears by which i believe gives him the bridge heights etc. Not sure how he got them but i believe it was a download from Garmin themselves. Hope this helps.
Tony.

Look in your preferences It gives different vehicle selections. Maybe thats what you want.
Most
routes have
signage to give diversions if it has bridges lower than standard height.

The Garmin 276c that I use allows for user to input special waypoints which can be used to make the unit beep when you get within a settable distance from the point.
As opposed to relying on someone else data.
In my case its loaded with camera locations, the odd school zones, areas where police road traps have been known to be setup , and any place I consider dangerous and need to take care.
Its not a low cost navigator though.

You would have to have a "Truckies" version of the maps which include the bridge heights (also weight restrictions) - most maps don't include this info because it's not relevant to most drivers.
I've got Truckies edition Street Directories for
Sydney and
Melbourne but I've never seen any Truckies editions of the GPS maps. Maybe a question for TomTom as truckies etc. are increasingly using GPS too.

Beat me to it Atta Boy Luther.
Just to add that the download page has Tom Tom as
well as most GPS's.
